https://x.com/sportspeteo/status/1826142393558503564?s=46&t=bFwez-5oi7CdxUG56_1QKg Leeds after a left winger from rangers hopefully cools their Clarke interest
I’d be amazed if anyone pays the £25m for Clarke. More likely a PL club might panic in January and spend. The worry is that he doesn’t sign a new deal and we’re forced to sell him for peanuts next summer
I tend to agree with this sentiment. I would be surprised if anyone on these forums know anything about this lad. The clips shown will obviously show all the "highlights" Like any signing, wether we know about the player or not is a risk. I have faith in the new boss, he seems to have a plan and if he thinks this kid will do a job, that's good enough for me. Our squad is getting better and building confidence and momentum. In football Momentum is everything..ask Ipswich last season.
A lot of people keep saying they prefer someone with championship experience, but who is there realistically in the striker/forward areas who we could sign
Still think we'd get decent money, plus i think theres more chance of him signing n extension than leaving this summer
I’d love to see the ‘lowlights’ reels released too with players falling over the ball, missing sitters, threading through a perfect pass for the opposition to score or thumping home an own goal.
Peanuts next summer is still likely to be in the £12-15m range. Which given we seemingly can’t get £25m this summer, doesn’t represent a massive drop off. It won’t be ideal, but it won’t be terminal.
Tend to agree. If what we are led to believe is true (that Clarke is really happy here and not angling for a move) then you'd assume he'll only leave for an opportunity to play in the Premier League. Not convinced anyone is paying £25m for him outside of the (likely) bottom 4 or 5 sides - at that point, does Clarke want to risk being relegated and ending up back in the Championship? All depends on whether the club are looking to cash in on him of course.
A big chunk of which would go to Spurs, so we'd be looking at around £8-9m which is a significant drop off.
I genuinely think not many clubs touch the 25m fee, I read somewhere that if he leaves for that then he would be the highest fee received for a championship club. So can’t see many teams touching it, even with the amount of ££ that Leeds have raised through sales. I think I might be in the few but the closer it gets to the window closing the more comfortable I get.
Wilson Isidor is coming to Sunderland today to have his medical so if everything goes smoothly then he should be confirmed today or tomorrow
Nah the best offer we’ve apparently had this summer is £17m so in reality it only represents a drop from a bit over £12m once Spurs get theirs.
It's all conjecture as no-one knows what figures are being discussed. What we do know is that his value is at it's peak right now. It will only start to decline over the next 2-3 transfer windows unless he signs a new contract
No of course. However the high likelihood is that the market is setting Clarke’s value at a point that is lower than we’d want, so a £12m fee in a year wouldn’t represent a catastrophic drop-off. Also, if Harte’s goal is to get Clarke into the PL - and he’s any sort of competent agent at all - any contract extension will include a release fee in the region of £15m. If we don’t get our £25m asking price in the current circumstances I’d highly doubt we’ll get it in the future if the circumstances were equivalent. All that will be rolled into the calculus on price. If we’re not letting him go for less this summer it’s because they feel that what they get in the round from keeping Clarke another year is worth it.
I’m more concerned about Jan than this window atm, hoping he signs an extension to secure us a fee with a guarantee we let him go in the summer should we not go up
We'd be better off keeping him and allowing his contract to run down than accept that . He is one of the best players in the Championship and the fee needs to represent that fact .
