It’s a lot for them to pay as well for the size of club they are. Unless the money is going back to the group somehow (at least partially) in the form of the Lesley loan or perhaps another Chelsea signing. Not sure if they have any young players in positions we need that we could afford that would also give them 100% profit for this year (perhaps with a buy back clause)
This is the point I was trying to make about strikers yesterday with Bournemouth looking to play €47m for someone with a little bit better than 1 goal in 3 in Portugal. We can’t afford someone with better stats. And when we can those stats look like Onuachu and don’t translate Some of the fees and presumably wages for these strikers are well beyond our reach. And also lots look like they moved within the country they are currently in rather than switching - presumably out of preference. Ruling us out as well.
Chelsea really want the 100% profit on Broja though. I am not sure a loan really helps them. But they’ve overpriced him. Their gamble is presumably that a successful loan actually gets them the price they want. But that has failed so far, risks further injury and doesn’t get them any profit this season Do Ipswich play with two strikers then? Shows how much attention I really paid to them last year
Is there a rumour of us meeting a release clause for a winger? Or is this just the only way they would sell him to us? They really would go mental. Not certain I would want him for the price it would take
No rumour, just he funny. The release clause is rumoured to be £20m for him which doesn’t seem too bad in current market, not much noise about him going anywhere My Leeds mates have turned the group chat away from moaning about losing Rutter to pissing themselves over Archer. I think I’ll leave them to it for a bit before sending the news that Szmodics has chosen irrelevant Ipswich over mighty Leeds
If Ipswich do get Broja along with Phillips and Szmodics added to their other business then on the face of it have had a decent window
IF they all stay fit and perform at a level none of them have shown in the PL for a good couple of years (or ever in Szmodics case). Ipswich's biggest strength, though, is their manager so if I was in their shoes I'd be pretty happy going into the season knowing that he and the quality they've added, at least on paper, give them a glimmer of hope of staying up. That said, I'd much rather have our squad.
Oh yeah - I forgot that they thought they would be able to use all their money to sign the best championship players and beat premier league interest Do you mean they are laughing about us signing Archer? I assume so?
It’s odd though - Szmodics seems like an out and out number 10. They’ve spent big on a winger. You can’t play two strikers, wingers and a number 10. That would leave Phillips on his own in central midfield looking nervous. Or no full backs I know you need a squad but unless I’ve misunderstood how Szmodics plays then he only fits a one striker system. Which means not playing either their record signing winger in kind of a 5-2-1-2 or not playing one of the strikers. And if Broja is a loan they will want guaranteed game time Again, unless I’ve missed something on positions it’s veering into “who are the best players we can get to join” territory. Reminds me a little of when S Armstrong first signed and at least per FM he utterly did not fit pretty much any system Ralph played.
Goes back to the gamble though doesn't it. You couldn't go into the season with Broja as your only striker. And likewise Delap for a different reason. So having both plus Szmodics is sensible I think.
Yeah but Chelsea will probably recall him if he doesn’t play. And if he does then Delap might not who is a player they actually signed permanently. And would want to develop. So my guess is Szmodics is the bench player which he might be happy with given he’s never played in the premier league so might get a good contract out of it
If the fee is at the high end of what was reported. The fee is reported to be in the 10-12 million Euro range so likely it will be £8-9million.
