We are just about to start the new season with predictions about the top 6 all over the media. It's clear that there are a lot of differering opinions. Many think Man U. will be back making inroads into the top 4 some think Chelsea will be up there. Very few think Spurs will make it and what about Villa? Are Arsenal favourites to win it or will City do it again, or, will the alegations against them be resolved to their cost? Not forgetting Liverpool without Klopp and then there is Newcastle. Lots of possibilities what's your view. I'll attach a poll on where we think Spurs will finish.
Hard to predict the league this season but in terms of Spurs it's also a tough one, personally I don't think we're much stronger than last season, so it's hard to predict us finishing higher or possibly even equal on initial outlook, especially as our players looked knackered for pretty much all of the second half of last season and we now have Europa to deal with. But then there are variables that could affect the season both positively or negatively. Such as: Bentancur's return to pre-injury form. Kulu, Johnson, Maddison, Sarr and Bissouma finding consistency. Solanke proving last season wasn't a one-off. Bergvall and Gray's (plus possibly Moore's) potential impact and growth as the season goes on could be key in the second half of the campaign. Managing to fix the defensive issues from both set pieces and often leaving van de Ven horrificly exposed in open play. Ange growing tactically now he's had a year's experience to understand the league and its demands more. Any potential new signings coming in and being successful. If these variables largely go positively then: 4th Europa quarters/ semis FA semis League Cup winner If these variables go negatively then: 7th Out of all comps earlier than expected Ange sacked around Feb/ March
6th for me. I think Man Utd are going to be stronger this year and can’t see Liverpool, Arsenal or Man City drop out of the top 4. I think Aston Villa, West Ham and spurs will battle for 6th.
Good post, I thought Bentancur showed good signs against Bayern. One of the big differences to me was Bayerns stronger tackling and better passing. Bentancur was on a par with Bayerns players in the area of tackiling which suggests he has full confidence in his body back. Bergvall looked very good and could raise the whole team once he gets up to speed probably later in the season. The young players, which you have been talking about for sometime, fill me with confidence for the future of Spurs.
I really hope Bentancur gets back to pre-injury form. I maintained throughout last season that he's easily our best midfielder when 'on it' but fully appreciate how bad those ACLs can ruin a player. The future definitely has so much potential, the present is a bit tougher to gauge. Hope it's a good one though (obviously!).
My head says: City Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool Spurs Villa Man Utd I think that we haven't a strong enough midfield to get top four or better. Bissouma (as well as being a moron) is too unreliable and post injury Madison is not delivering. My only hesitation is that both Chelsea and Liverpool have new manager and a slow start could lead to issues for them.
City Liverpool Arsenal Spurs Man Utd Villa I like that we have 2 centre forwards, mainly so that Son goes out left again, where he belongs. If Maddison gets his early season form from last year, I think we'll give most a good game.
I've voted 'Other'. We'll be expelled from the Football League when the PL finds us guilty of Man City breaching 115 FFP charges and Chelsea grooming underage players.
Like DH, I think predicting our season is very difficult. Anything from 3rd to 6th is the most likely range, although we still have sufficient squad weaknesses that a complicated season game-wise with EL and domestic cups to cover may become exposed. However, IF Ange can recreate the positivity and confidence of the first 10 games of last season, we don't suffer the season-ending injuries of last term and the precocious talents of Bergvall and Moore transfer to PL level, then we could well exceed expectations. But being the eternal pessimist I'm going with 5th
Well I am the eternal optimist so I'm hopeful Ange can push us on further. I genuinely think we can make top 4 this time and even as high as 3rd place. Can't see beyond City to win it, unless the Premier League grow some and kick them out over the mythical charges but I doubt that will happen. Of the rest unfortunately I can only see Arsenal pushing them very close to the number 1 slot. Villa will be preoccupied with Champions League but Newcastle "dark horses" for me. Injury ravaged last season but surely that won't happen again and they'll push on. My top 6.... 1 City 2 Arsenal 3 Tottenham 4 Newcastle 5 Liverpool 6 Villa Bring it on...
I think the top 3 from last season will remain the top 3. Spurs are competing with Newcastle and Chelsea for 4th to 6th. I think 5th again. Villa are likely to drop off a bit as they too dependent on Watkins up front. Utd are still all over the place.
I put us as first in the poll....not because I really expect that but I think we have an outside chance and I want to be optimistic. We lost 12 games last year and in more than half of those we had chances to win. Most of our team is young and should improve year on year, and I think we've generally got better cover than last year too. So I can see possibilities to get 15 to 20 more points if everything goes well. I think each of Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool will get fewer points than last year (if we get a lot more points then some should be off Arsenal and if Chelsea get more they should also take some off the top 3) and something in the low 80s will be enough to win the title.
Arsenal or city for the league. For the first time, I genuinely believe the scum could win it. Last season I felt city would have too much, this time I’m not so sure. Spurs could make top 6 again, although I worry the extra games in cups and Europe will take a toll. Ange has to sort the team out defensively though. Hopefully a few more senior additions are made before the window closes. right now I’d say 7th or 8th
1st!!!! Have a serious word with yourself, Power!!!! But what about the 5-6 games when we won, but probably should have lost or drawn? Sheffield and Liverpool to name but two.... That's the case in most of our seasons isn't it?
The hotel's going to look stunning and there's the new training centre for the ladies' team. They'll win more awards than the football team does under ENIC's entire tenure. I see us finishing between 5th and 8th. I don't have any faith that there's a cup out there that has our name on it, either. I just hope I'm wrong. Hopefully the likes of Moore, Lankshear, Gray, Bergvall, etc. get meaningful game time. If there's to be genuine hope of success, we've got to have faith in them and give them the opportunity to succeed. .
Can't help myself...seems disloyal to predict us to do badly. But our squad value is closing in on Arsenal who I think have outperformed in the last two years. Liverpool and Chelsea have untested new managers. Man Utd don't impress me and Man City have to have a decline at some point surely.
We ship too many goals and I don`t see that changing with these tactics (hope I am wrong), at present we have a slightly stronger squad than last season, but the first XI has stood still and is still short of at least a couple of top quality additions in key areas.
