Mate he doesn’t play and the coach doesn’t want to use him. In our situation, you absolutely have to sell him and use it to reinvest If we could push to £25m I’d be delighted
All comes down to how much we need the money. If we need it as desperately as it appears we can’t really afford to wait until the end of the window trying to get £30m+ for him. Get the money and bring in some inferior players but who suit Russball
If it comes down to selling ABK and Charly to get O’Riley and a striker - and keeping KWP in the process - then I’d do it instantly
"The coach doesn't wasn't want use him" is a terrible reason to sell someone, particularly for less than they're worth. He's worth at least £30mill.
It would of course make more sense to sell KWP than Charly, mainly because we have Sugawara and he will leave for free next season. However the fact no one is offering £21m for KWP but they are for Charly is a minor snag in that plan. Sell Charly for £21m-£25m plus a decent sell-on then go and buy O'Riley who is clearly our primary target and is a better player that would suit the way we play.
Really? That seems to me to be one of the best and most common reasons why teams sell players. If he's not going to play (much) there's not a lot of point keeping him. Whatever he's worth now he'll be worth less after a season on the bench or in the reserves. Let him move on and use the money to bring in someone the coach does want to play.
And what happens if Martin gets sacked? Alcaraz showed he has PL quality last time we were in the PL. I'm not saying don't sell him - just ensure we get a good price. £20mill is not a good price.
I think Martin has earned enough goodwill to deserve to buy 'his' players, and we would all be better off for it, than keeping a player incase he gets sacked.
I think the only way I would tolerate an Alcaraz sale is if MOR was a done deal and we needed the funds to complete the transfer.
What evidence is there that O'Riley is a better player? Doing well in a pub league? Don't disagree with your general point but there's no guarantee that he's good enough either.
think it very unlikely Martin gets sacked this year unless we are doing a Derby (possible but not massively likely). Can see the club sticking by him to get us promoted again if we do go down, so that means Alcaraz has another year of probably not much football as he is too creative for Martin, lowers his possible fee and another year off his contract. I don’t like the route we’ve taken but the club has gone all in on Martin, have to give him some help with some players he actually wants
Amen. RM was brought into a bloody difficult set of circumstances and worked his bollocks off to get us up immediately and avoid all that a failed season would have meant for us. If he now wants to sell a squad player who wasn't particularly fussed about hanging around anyway, in order to facilitate getting out of a financial tight spot and adding some of his top summer targets, then let's get it done. He has earned that right Let's try and push Flamengo as much as possible on the price, absolutely, but let's be prepared to get it done
