wtf? Did you choose there or did someone tell you to book there? It’s one of the most deprived areas in Newcastle. Straight up mate, if I was going there I’d buy a little Palestinian badge flag and stick it on my jacket. Bad time to be going there.
Reopening the young offenders institute in Borstal, Rochester. This is to house the rioters, it use to house 188 offenders. Welcome to Kent you fookers
Chose it but didn't do any research on it or anything. Rarely do for UK cities tbh but yeah doesn't seem ideal given current going ons. Sounds like it'll be very different to Jesmond and Central where I've stayed previously
Just watch what you’re doing, honestly… Are you driving or train/flying? If it goes bad around there tomorrow you’re more than welcome to stay in mine. My brother would meet you with the keys but if you don’t have the car it’ll be a bit rough to get to and from because it’s a village in Durham a bit out the way. I’ll not be there so you’ll have the house to yourself.
I wasn't aware Borstal had closed, but apparently so. They've already got problems at the prison, because it's only meant to take category c prisoners, but theyve been taking in more serious offenders and now gangs have formed and contraband is getting in the place, and the staff ain't trained to the level required for what the prison has become.
Nice one mate I appreciate that. Flying up however though as couldn't be arsed with the 6 hour trek on a weekday and the flights were more reasonable than I expected. I assumed it was a ****ty area due to the price but it doesn't normally bother me tbh. I'm one of those weird ****s who likes seeking out rough areas and pubs when I visit a UK City even if not staying in one. See how this weekend goes I think, I've got free cancellation for another week anyway. Should be interesting if nothing else
Think I'm getting confused actually. Is the YOI at Rochester separate to the borstal part? Was the YOI I visited. Up to age 21 iirc.
Ah sorry mate that's me confusing it, yeah it's a YOI, which is in a place named Borstal in Rochester. Most people just call it Borstal, which can be confusing for outsiders, I'm forgetting myself and chatting as a local lol Also known as Cookham Wood.
Said it to the Mrs the other day. The media pick and choose what info they broadcast . Makes you wonder.
Director of public prosecutions considering charging some people from the riots with terrorism. This is not aimed at peaceful protests, but people who are intent on going there for the sole purpose of riot.
It's been acknowledged in the media that some white people were attacked by gangs. I'm not clear if these were people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time or whether they had any involvement in the protests, and if so what.
This is a sad, and inevitable result of the riots, that eventually black and asian lads would take to the streets and engage in the same mindless violence that the right wing knuckle draggers have been doing.
Needs to be dealt with just the same though, because if it's not then you will get peaceful people getting involved, because if people who are not protesting are attacked then you open a whole new can of worms. Although as I said, I don't know what those white people were doing in the area at the time of the attacks, so will hold fire on my judgements.
I think the guy on his own in front of the pub giving it large, was partly to blame for what occurred, still not condoning what happened to him, but he didn't look entirely 100% non blame worthy.
Self defence is acceptable imo. So if people are standing outside a local mosque or homes or shop and rioters go to attack it then I have no issue with violence being met with violence. But walking around looking for a ruck simply plays into the hands of the racists, makes you look as bad as them and will lead to mouthy morons getting a beating or worse still innocent people getting hurt. That's my disagreement about the pub thing. The bloke mouthing off didn't warrant a pile in like thst and people in the pub didn't deserve to be frightened etc.
