Liverpool are probably going to want a similar fee that Celtic want for O’Riley for Carvalho, can’t see us signing both unless we are selling a fair few for large combined fees. Carvalho and O’Riley will probably cost upwards of £50m combined
Yet the fact we aren't playing him at all in pre season suggests we actually want (need) to sell him and weakens our position. If we were genuinely okay with keeping him then we would be playing him and getting him fit for the opening weekend.
Yep, exactly. Let's not forget the stance last year was to play players regardless of their future. Jwp captained us in the championship, Tella still played - hell even the likes of Salisu, Lyanco & DCC played in preseason. Seems a change in strategy certainly.
I think thats because we genuinely wanted to keep those players, whereas because KWP only has 1 year left we actually want to sell. Which I think is the right move. £15m & Sugawara for £7m is better than 1 more year of KWP then him going for free.
Valid point to be fair and slightly different scenario to those players I mentioned (though I don't think we wanted to keep the likes of Salisu or DCC regardless) although again, didn't stop us playing the likes of Che who wanted out. Granted, slightly different circumstances this summer and we seemed happy to gamble on promotion then and lose these players for nothing as opposed to getting some £££ for KWP.
With KWP it is a case of we will sell him for the right price. If not we’ll keep him. What we don’t want to do before 31st August is him to pick up a 1-2 month out niggle, that then means there is no way he will be sold - especially if there are a few offers on the table. Come my birthday (Sept 1st), if he is still here we will play him.
Of course we will play him if he stays beyond the close of the transfer window. But I think it is clear from our actions so far that despite saying he will only be sold for the right price, we will be selling him in this window, even if it isnt for the money we want.
I mean we obviously wanted to keep him, he’s still our best player, but he hasn’t and won’t sign the new contract on the table. And we’ve said that we are not willing to let what happened this season happen again i.e. losing Stu and Che for nothing. We can’t really afford to do that.
I’m (naively almost certainly) hoping that we are being a bit clever with KWP. See where we are/likely to be squad wise by the end of the window and make a call then. Clearly right now keeping him is not going to make a shred of difference in staying up as we have no chance, but if we manage to sign 3/4 more first team and PL level players we might have a chance. If we do that and KWP hasn’t left we might think keeping him could make a difference in staying up, more so than selling him for £15m or whatever we would get for him. If we don’t pull off the signings we are after then sell him
I'm a little jealous of that - I'd have been very happy to bring him here, especially at that price. But at least he hasn't joined a PL rival.
I’m convinced not that sentence sense any make does, but I get the joke anyway And it’s Buonanotte from me …
It means I think eloquent or 'of significance' So his name is a significant good night or an eloquent goodnight lol EDIT: though that is the Spanish word, there appears to be no direct translation form Italian, even though it is from Latin roots.
