You’re blaming trans people for the riots and civil unrest? Those poor ****ers really can’t catch a break
Would depend on if they walked out the hospital with pork sword removed or pork sword added I suppose
I've said this a few times this week but I'm not convinced tbh. Still think this could get worse before it gets better.
Turns out Tommy Robinson is more of and extreme Left Activist than a Right Wing one https://x.com/rwdburley/status/1820076473627140101
Sorry for the rambling...3 am and I can't sleep! I don't expect any **** to actually read it but it'll save Mrs RCL from having to hear drone on. Glasgow had a horrific problem with knife crime 20 odd years ago. By having an approach which tried to understand what was causing the problem and then tackling these issues they massively improved things. See below. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-14012001 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-45572691 https://quarterly.blog.gov.uk/2019/07/04/a-radical-approach-to-tackling-knife-crime-in-scotland/ For me, it shows that more stop and searches alone aren't the solution. Loads of gangs pay little kids to carry drugs and weapons for them or to hide them around estates. There ain't no amount of stop and searches that'll stop that. All of what was successful in Glasgow cost money and is costly as it requires time, staff and resources. After years of constant cut backs politicians turn to sound bites and are incapable of listening to anyone who points out that cutting youth services, community engagement schemes, wages, opportunities, health services, mental health provisions, education support staff, social services etc. Instead they scream "there's no money trees you know," or "did the poor darling go out and stab some one as there was no youth club?" They call those campaigning woke and accuse them of being part of the problem. I don't pretend to have the answer cos the is no one solution. However, having politicians screaming lies in parliament, on TV/radio and on social media does nothing to address the real issues. Nor does blaming "leftie do gooders". Official politics in Britain has become more and more poisonous and seems to do have next to no concern for normal people. It's been like this for decades. From the destruction of jobs and communities in the 1980s, the closure of hospitals, getting rid of libraries, law centres, introduction of the poll tax , illegal and immoral wars, the removal of lots of rights, less job security, few careers, destroying house building programmes, getting rid of rent controls, giving away national assets, bailing out banks while imposing austerity etc people have been ignored. Demonstrations are ignored, peaceful but disruptive protests have led to people being jailed for longer than rapists are, strikers can just be sacked ... if society punishes peaceful protests people get violent...then society listens. It took direct, illegal action from the suffragettes to bring about change. Britain ignored the threat of the Mosley fascists in the 1930s until working people in the east end stood their ground against them. It took a riot at the stonewall club in New York to bring about Gay rights. The civil rights movement in the US in the 1960s was abused and battered until they physically responded and cities burned. The riots in the 1970s and 1980s led to huge changes in policing. Then there was the brave fight against Apartheid in SA and the fantastic destruction of the Berlin Wall and all that followed. The Poll tax riot and non payment campaign got rid of one of the most unfair taxes in modern history. The welling riot in 1993 led to the closure of the BNP hq and led to the MacPhearson inquiry. If people are not listened to and are ignored or abused then they will respond in destructive ways. Sometimes that can bring positive change or it can be horrendous. Look at the anti Jewish pogroms in the 1800s throughout europe, or Germany in the 1930s etc. Once people feel desperate they can be taken down a dark path by utter ****s. I was always proud of the anti racist and anti fascist campaigns I have been involved in and what I see now makes me despair. I fear that we have a very fractured country and some people are beginning to make very worrying choices. I don't believe that having concerns about immigration makes someone a racist...never have. I may not agree with them but that's a worthwhile debate. But anyone attacking migrants/ setting fire to their cars, homes or hotels/hostels etc has been won over to the extreme right wing. When an MP was murdered a few years back (think he was stabbed at his surgery in Southend) by a black guy I was really concerned that it would lead to BNP types using it to spread their filth. Thankfully my fears where misplaced. It is a shocking state of affairs that they have succeeded in using the horrific murders and attempted murders of those children to further their aims. To lose your child is soul destroying, to be denied the chance to grieve because others are using their murders for their own ends is something I can't imagine.
Ross Burley @rwdburley · 20h 5/ Public Appearances Robinson spoke at a Libertarian Party of Russia conference and the Listva bookshop in St. Petersburg, known for its far-right affiliations. His engagements underscore the support & platform provided by Russian far-right networks. Not sure how making appearances at far right conventions make him left wing ?
Mentioned this the other day, but got accused of being all Kumbaya Or Kung Bai Yah as Bobz put it lol You have to engage the yoot in a meaningful way, and inspire them to make positive life choices. This all costs money and needs dedicated youth workers, mentors and services that treat the offending problem as a social/health issue rather than just a criminal issue. Knife crime is a symptom of what's happening in the background of these people's lives. The fact that over the last 14 years we've seen 60% cuts to youth services has seen a direct correlation with young people getting involved in crime and carrying weapons. And that is from a Govt commissioned report. You also have to balance knife crime offences with tough sentences, but those custodial sentences need to be focused on positive interventions rather that just locking them away in isolation for 20 hours per day, as that just promotes another reoffender. Anyway, the studies you posted show this approach works. It costs money, but it works Kumbaya
Just make anybody caught with a bladed weapon sit on it down to the hilt ... soon cure it ... whilst quite literally making the punishment fit the crime
Just to add to that, when I worked for the NHS, I was involved in delivering the Prevent programme down here. That was seen by some communities as targeting young Muslim men, but it's scope was far wider than that and actually looked at tackling the root causes of extremism and indoctrination, including far right and fascist sympathisers and (in my field) people with drug, alcohol and mental health problems, who were at risk of being drawn into extremism. I don't even know if that programme is still running, as I know it got a lot of negative connotations attached to it. But when I was involved with it, and I used to work directly alongside the Police, Social Services, Youth Services, The Church, Homeless charities and it was a really good joined up way of trying to engage (mainly) young people and help to support them to make positive life choices, help them find secure housing, jobs and get involved in groups and activities etc.
I get it, people want to see punishments for knife crime. But in reality, if you want to actually tackle it and reduce it, you have to undertake the programmes like the ones @remembercolinlee has highlighted. Otherwise we're just trying to stem the tide of an increasing problem.
Anyway, good to see all our politicians scrambling for media interviews this morning, but one question remains, where the fook were you at the weekend when the cops were trying to keep people safe. I don't forget **** like that and I'm not just getting at Labour, I'm getting at ALL MP's, we had a national emergency and no MP's were anywhere to be seen, apart from a brief rant by Starmer, which achieved absolutely nothing. In some ways it's akin to covid, people suffer while they are out partying or whatever else they did Saturday and Sunday.
Just listening to a statement from South Yorkshire police. Apparently Police dogs were injured from bottles and bricks thrown at them. Also horses injured and had their bridle straps cut to try and throw offices off of their backs. Same people who are protesting knife crime using knives to try and injure coppers…..
