Reality is that a lot of these people on both sides trying to create their own narratives are not kids. They're men in their 40s+ (my age really) that were trying to bypass the restricted/controlled narrative of the world we were fed in our rebellious years - 4/5 TV channels and basically radio was BBC only. We askewd "this can't be the only viewpoint. When the internet came around, that fight is gone but a decade + on from there they started channelling the information freedom that is now normal. So they are basically just taking advantage of the freedom we all wanted. Even people like Owen Jones is now 39 so he's not that far off.
The problem is that now opinions chatted amongst 5-10 people localised in a pub are now chatted on the internet with hundreds/thousands of people worldwide. Edit. Think about it. My opinion above has just gone out on this small forum to people in the UK, Netherlands, USA, New Zealand, Canada, the Philippines, China… and that is just the posters on here I can think about from the top of my head.
This is true. But yours is a reasonable opinion; even when I think you’re wrong I find you reasonable. The trouble with the 24 hour social media world, is that it’s generally the unreasonable opinions which gain traction and quickly spread. Not sure why that is, that’s a question for psychologists or anthropologists I suppose.
Sadly probably to do with the writers of the algorithm rather than anything else mate. Social media like twitter creates demand by rage baiting people. More clicks more ££££.
Debunking twitter is understandable but are politicians, police or the BBC any more reliable? Maybe not as sensationalist, or maybe just more subtle but they all have their agendas.
Yeah, I recently saw Twitter and Facebook described as “Rage Engines”, which seems pretty spot on. Twitter did make an effort to regulate itself, but then Musk bought it and let all the scumbags like Andrew Tate back on.
Well we’ve had 14 years of a government that did absolutely nothing to address migration, either legal or illegal, while simultaneously dog-whistling and gaslighting the far right for electoral gain. So at least that’s finally over.
But of course it’s up to this new one to get it solved yesterday. Funny that. One of the reasons they never said anything is they wanted the support of those people currently out rioting. And they didn’t get it anyway
No indeed, Farage got that. And nearly let his mask slip the other day. Labour has 5 years to make tangible improvements to people’s lives. Otherwise the future is bleak and sinister forces are waiting in the wings; no pressure then, Sir Keir…
The scenes in Rotherham truly are horrific. Worst incident so far comfortably. ****s should be slapped with terrorism charges. Quite simply that's what it is.
The most populous of all terrorist organisations working within the UK are all white nationalist organisations.
Yeah I'm aware of that but I can't recall attempts to set fire to a hotel housing lots of people before. That's a clear step up from the general violence and vandalism (which is bad enough) we've seen so far in my view. Extreme violence in the name of a political agenda. That's terrorism.
They have been sitting there waiting. Listening to their Tates. Swapping their stats about muslim rapists. Telling each other nobody listens. Ignoring the stats the don’t like - because this is still a colour thing to a lot of people. Most immigrant criminals are Albanians - check the stats! - but this is all about colour.
Yeah but the Albanians are the good type of criminals as they offer really convenient drug delivery services.
Thought Starmer spoke well just now. Of course all of those condoning the rioting are just accusing him of making things worse and egging it on by speaking about it and refusing to change his stance on it being far-right thuggery
From an article about Albanian crime in the UK: “They have been convicted of murder, manslaughter, rape, violent disorder, firearms offences, kidnap, causing death by dangerous driving, burglary and producing cannabis in gang-run farms in houses and disused industrial sites.” I do get your joke (and know people who make use of drug deliveries) but they are pretty bad.
Yeah it was sarcasm mate. I think we should try and avoid making statements like 'they are pretty bad' though given what's happening in the country currently.
I meant the crimes rather than the people- but white immigrants face far less backlash than those of other colours anyway.
Actions speak louder than words. Time for some serious changes to be made in how we're dealing with this imo. Whether that's curfews, tear gas, military support, I don't know. But this isn't letting up until people start dying as it stands as far as I can see.
