He’s a Hail Mary at best. Not a ****ing chance he’s a “top player”!
People were saying this when we signed Gordon, he was never a top player at Everton but clearly stood out against the rest of the squad. He's easily doubled his value in terms of what we paid for him. Not saying Barnes will ever reach those heights but its still very early days for him with us and I've liked what I've seen in the 21 times he's made it on to the pitch for us.

I really hope there’s a day soon where you (and CC) are proven spectacularly wrong on this. He’s made 21 appearances for us so far and scored 5 goals. I’d be surprised if half of those appearances were from the starting 11 and I’ll hazard a guess that probably only half of them were more than 20min appearances or more I really can’t be arsed to delve into the detail. My point is we’ve barely seen him and in most cases he’s made an impact when been on the pitch and he’s exactly the type of player we need in our squad, he gives us the option of keeping Gordon on the pitch and moving him into the middle or over to the right during games as well. Elliot Anderson made double the appearances for the club and scored 0.
People need to get out of this mentality of saying we’ve paid silly money for a sub! He’s a squad player, but so is every other player at the club. I’d rather have Barnes in our squad for £40m than ****ing Anthony for £60m that’s for sure.

He was 45 million ! I'm not seeing a very good player as things stand and he won't even play. I haven't ruled anything out, so the hoping for ifs buts and maybes isn't particularly relevant.

The money would've been better spent on a rw or cb as things stand.

I have also suggested that on here a number of times over the last month so websites are probably just quoting my tactical genuis.

I think it could work at times, but there's no arial presence up top... I've been saying Newcastle need that option for a while now particularly for away games which Newcastle are unsurprisingly dreadful in.

That's why I was happy with the Lewin link

Newcastle are one dimensional.

We talking about Barnes?

Didn't want him after I saw Leicester player Everton. Thought Barnes was quite easily the worst Leicester player on the pitch that day, his attitude stunk.

On the opposite side of that, Gordon against us was fantastic, he was easily Evertons BEST player on the pitch

I am certain Howe decided to sign him that very match.

Basically, I never wanted Barnes and thought we should have walked away from Leicester after the Maddison deal fell apart, we shouldn't have opened up talks for Barnes instead.

And on Gordon I thought he was a great signing, I am pleased he's proven his supporters right.

Yeah he's a big lump isn't he .... Good shot stuck onto the longstaff gene.

Will signing Guehi be a reality check then?

I'm not convinced that will happen and I don't think he's as good as people think either. A few good games in the euros is always a red flag imo.

I'm not against it but Harry Maguire springs to mind ... 60 million for a Palace cb that Southgate likes. England played **** teams too.

We'll see if they even buy him.

He was outstanding for Palace last season, this hasn't got anything to do with a few good games in the Euros, he's a hot property cos of his performance in the Premier League.

OK well we will see but I remember Maguire having a good season at Leicester. I've actually not seen him play much, so I'm not going to pretend I have and declare him the next big thing.

I think he's probably just a player that had a good season and Southgates given him a leg up in stature.

We will see won't we, but he can't be worse than Burn and Krafth.

Maguire was a good defender for quite a while and he was even good at the start of his Man U time.

Iirc his career nosedived around the same time his personal life became troubled.

Hmmmm I think his ability was inflated too quickly personally, but something certainly got worse, so maybe he lost his way like you say.

The English are notoriously bad when it comes to getting carried away with a players abilities. They've been singing footballs coming home for 30 years, so I would always think twice about judging these rogue managerial picks made in major competitions.

I'm not saying this player is guaranteed to be a disaster, but I just haven't seen enough of him and the rapid rise in people's views on him I find suspect.

All of a sudden all the fans are pretending they've watched every game he played at Palace and always wanted Newcastle to pay 60 million pounds for the player.

I can guarantee If he didn't get picked by Southgate and the price was 30 million they'd be saying they wanted someone else. I'll be fine with it, but I'm not going to carry on like we've signed the next Maldini.

I wasn't that impressed with Guehi at the Euro's either if i'm honest, as has been said above tho he was very good for Palace last season. I wouldn't want us paying silly money for him tho regardless of the "english" tax. We could probably get Branthwaite for £60m if that's what we're looking to spend on a CB, we could pay even less if we chuck a player in to the mix as well which they may be open to.

Absolutely agree I'd rather they went elsewhere with that kind of money. Branthwaite would be better yeah.
