Not sure what you mean by this but I've often chuckled at the notion that we are one of the 'Big Six'. By what metric?

There's a Big Five who have collectively won almost every trophy ever in the PL era, and then there is us with our two League Cups. We're the best of the rest but comparing us to teams who are exponentially more successful than us is pointless.

There’s no appetite to win from the club. Players join and instantly their talk is of top 4 and playing good football. Surely winning football is good football?

Getting to a CL final shows no appetite to win now...?

Rarely ever finishing outside the top 6 in about 20 years, mainly.
Also being ever-present in the Premier League and, of course, the financials.

You can't guarantee trophies, especially when considering who we're competing with.
Two countries sportswashing, a bunch of criminals doing the same and some bent Northerners.
Other clubs trying to compete in the same manner have been relegated or gone bust.
Virtually all of the available trophies have gone to a handful of clubs.

    What "anomaly" ??

Since the 1960-61 side, Spurs have effectively
reached one UEFA tournament final each decade,
save the 2000s, and 1990s (where Heysel denied
    Spurs two such opportunities) .

So <applause> to the team in 2019 for putting that
    norm back on track.

The manager cried at the end of the semi final and the talk around the whole club at the time was job done etc.

Reaching finals is great but ultimately you need to win them and even if you win them you need to look at the next one etc.

You bringing up getting to a final in 2019 (which was lost within 30seconds) as appetite for success in 2024 reinforces my point

Agreed. But none of that means that we deserve to be compared to and grouped with five clubs who have simply been miles more successful than us in the PL era.

The reasons why the comparison doesn't work might not be fair, but the end result is still true.

    There's a Big Five and the also-rans. We're #1 of that group.

Sounds like one of them 'i just want to win the argument' post tbh

Spurs making a euro final is an anomaly in my lifetime...not really bothered what happened when when we were all riding penny farthings to work

I expect Spurs to reach at least one UEFA tournament
final per decade, and be winners in one of them.

That is the standard that the club has set in MY lifetime.
Why would I as a supporter settle for anything less ??

We've consistently finished above all of them at some point during that run, though.

The Big Six tag comes from the 2010s and only us, the filth and City were top 6 during that whole decade.
Not only did we stay up there, but virtually nobody else broke into that and only Leicester broke the top 4.
Everton were the only non-Big Six side to make 2 entries into the top six and they collapsed afterwards.
Moyes' last season and Martinez' first (12/13, 13/14) was as close as they got and they're now in deep ****.

We've missed out on trophies narrowly, but there's been very little for anyone apart from the dodgy ****ers.
    Villa's last one was in 95/96. Everton? 94/95. Newcastle? 54/55. Forest? 89/90.
Those are the clubs next in line behind us in trophies won, historically speaking.

Drawing the line at 6th place is arbitrary though, isn't it?

We might be comparable in finances and global support, but why draw the line at 6th? There is nothing inherently special about finishing in the top 6, especially when it means you've often finished over 20 pts behind the title winners.

Sky and others have done it to increase viewership and profits. If you can frame Spurs v Team x as a 'title clash', you'll take in more Benjamins.

It was largely because their previous Big Four had been ****ed by City and they didn't want to kick out Liverpool or Utd.
Add in basically guaranteed European football and the financial gulf and you get a group separate from everyone else.

Liverpool weren't great at the start of the 2010s and they're a big thing for the media.
    They were below City in every single season, finishing 7th, 6th, 8th, 7th, 2nd, 6th and 8th.
They finished above us twice. Utd started well, then died off. Virtually the opposite.

If you want to limit it to top 4, then we broke into it on six occasions. More often than not.
Leicester were the only other team to do it at all and they only managed it once.
They did win the league, of course, and we all know that story.
We got more points the next season and finished 2nd. Not a lot you can do about that.
