Which the cheerful lot over on Saintsweb are taking to mean that the deal is definitely off. I remember now why I didn’t want pay to join that site. The deal could well be off - but it won’t be down to a good performance in a pre season friendly

Unless he doesn’t want to move abroad then Atalanta seems like a no brainer. Imagine there won’t be much difference in the wages being offered and they are obviously way better than us
Only reason you'd pick Saints over Atlanta is because you think playing in the PL is the best way to showcase your talent and get a move to an elite club. I don't know if he is at that level, but he may believe he can be.

Yeah I’d argue Atalanta could showcase just as well. Yes Saints are in the PL but are likely going to struggle so harder to stand out. He could be like Lavia I suppose and still look very good if we do have a bad season
Depends on who we are discussing him being “showcased” to. And who he might ultimately want to go to. Most of Atalanta’s big sales have been to other Italian clubs
The moving overseas to a country where you can’t speak the language is a non trivial factor in this. Despite the national team he plays for he is ultimately British and it’s not common for British players to pick European clubs over premier league ones.
But Atalanta surely are favourites here. Notably their name keeps being discussed and ours really isn’t mentioned much. It’s showing why I wasn’t a fan of the idea of the own thread. Or at least one titled “Saint”. Couldn’t that part at least wait until they are likely to sign?
Hopefully this resolves soon and there are other people on our list. Better than Gakpo going all the way to the end and us not getting him
As people have said, not to the top PL sides, especially as Atlanta will likely not make the knockouts. A transfer route of a lower PL team to a top side is a much clearer route than someone like Atlanta. Most English players would likely choose Saints in this situation (assuming wages are the same anyway).

The Saint threads were never about waiting until 'likely to sign'. Weird you keep pushing this narrative tbh.
Fair point but it went on much longer than that. It only changed a couple of years back when Tom became mod and unilaterally decided there should be rules around them iirc.
