We are not bitters so we don't care about taking a blue nose in. They'd be having fits. My thing is this. A) no rules in the UK about coaches. Being homegrown. So we appoint anyone slot likes. They are .mostly Dutch, 1 English gk coach promoted and one German gk coach, 1 e glish elite link coach. B) no diversity. They might all be a team but we have not taken the opportunity to give the players at least one person who might be representing their various communities. As you know ow know what I mean. I think we've gone past the era where people knew about this but could say "oh OK klopp is in and thst long term but next time" Yes appoint the best people but come on, there has to be a focus on this now.
The Everton connection aside because I'm not bothered, he doesn't have much pedigree. That said, I don't honestly ever know much about assistant coaches. Usually there is a close link between the manager and his assistant but beyond that, you have to trust those choosing to make the right decision.
He's got a CV though and Mr slot says they went for him cos he knows the prem. I don't really care about playing careers par se with coaches anyway so lets see what he brings in terms of coaching. As I said before I don't know a thing about any of them so they have to give it a go and show the same as their predecessors did under klopp but I was disappointed they didn't try address some diversity to match the playing squad. It's overdue
Have Liverpool fc ever had someone who is not white in a senior coaching role? Stats published for england in general is less than 5% of coaches in England are black. Meanwhile over 40% of players are. I just think there has got to be a suitable person out there to be both the talent required and bring that diversity in to improve the club. Do you mean fairclough jb? He is an assistant fitness coach. The club did advertise for roles but have basically largely gone Dutch. It'd be nice also to promote more from u21 but we will see. Slot has hired 3 he has not worked with before so maybe the set piece coach could come in next
First proper pre season game in about an hour. Hopefully be a nice game, no injuries and some positive performances by the kids and senior players
Which is ironic given all the talk during euros about the Dutch squad and how ‘non white’ they were! Think there is clearly an issue about black ex players going into coaching but I think that is slowly changing in England. Defoe and Cole been involved. Rosenior gone from Hull and French team now.
You staying up to see it? I'd hope that it evens out as it's not been happening on its own naturally. The stats also show anyone trying is for more likely get the sack that white counterparts. I just think you want to give the younger players figures to look up to that are more than just player focusing on their won thing. If nearly half are black and we love them to come through and play (as we do) them it'd be nice now to push the agenda along. Maybe next time.
Nope not watching. Looks strong first half line up though. keleher bradley Quansah vd berg tsimikas Szobo Endo jones elliott salah carvshlo
1-0 win over Betis. Szoboslai with the goal from Salah pass. Jones went off early as a precaution, Nyoni came on and had a good impact. Sounds like didn’t really play with a striker but both szoboslai and Elliott were two 10s
It was interesting that half the line ups posted tried to make Elliott the 9 but it was anything but. It was also interesting that he had given players 60mins there rather than 2 halves. It may just suggest that starting line up is seen as the seniors (which they were) and he's already getting ready for match day 1 (which is not far away at all) I think match fitness is needed so fairly positive that they are already working up to it.
I watched it. Rusty at first, gave the ball away a few times, but a nice goal. Wholesale changes saw eight children brought on at once in the second half - they were much livelier and the entertainment value soared, but they were a bit naive, understandably. I'm cautiously impressed by Nyoni, he could be really good after a few pies.
