Tom’s on hand for the lowdown https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport.../cardiff-mamelodi-final-score-report-29596006
Sorry Nin, just spotted this. I was reading text updates rather than watching. Ashford seemed to get a lot of mentions. Highlights are up. PRE-SEASON HIGHLIGHTS | MAMELODI SUNDOWNS | Cardiff (cardiffcityfc.co.uk)
Highlights looked OK. Again a high press and forward looking, so a definite change in approach as with other pre-season games. Etete busy and linked play up, but no real goal threat. Robinson heavily involved with quite a few shots. Ashford got on the ball and moved it quickly. Colwill Jnr had some good involvement. None of the youngsters looked out of place. Erol quite critical of the team, concentrating on areas that need improvement. I'm ok with that if he keeps it general. No picking on individuals in public. MAMELODI SUNDOWNS REACTION | EROL | Cardiff (cardiffcityfc.co.uk)
Seen the clip now. It’s difficult to gauge the performances in these pre season games with multiple substitutions and against very different types of opponents. Alnwick made a few smart saves and there was a nicely taken goal from young Colwill. King looked knackered. Etete cannot be the main striker - he’s lightweight. It’s been stated here many times but Bulut has to address this position asap for City to have any chance of top 6 they need a 15-20 goal marksman. Ashford shows promise but hasn’t shown he’s going to net enough.
Yes, on the highlights clip Etete looked like a lanky schoolboy who wanted the ball but didn't know what to do with it when he got it.
In fairness, Bulut has stated that he's trying to address the goalscoring issue. The problem he has is that every other championship manager is trying to to the same. Back to the pre season games, I think we're witnessing the beginning of a change of emphasis in how we play. I'm looking forward to seeing his first eleven at some point but I think that'll be the Reading game.
The intent does seem different this year. Wanting to and being able to are different things though. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. The youngsters seem comfortable with it. Maybe the 1st team aligning with the youngsters rather than the other way round. Robinson seems comfortable with that style as well. Let's see if we get a bit more out of him this season. The team looks OK and we've not seen our two newbies yet. Hope to see a couple more through the door in the next couple of weeks.
Sounds like both Collins and Davies may have been withdrawn with injuries. Tad worrying if so, hopefully just precautionary rather than serious.
Another good workout. Looked a decent level of oposition. Davies injury looked like a hamstring. Not good. https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/video/player/0_ne4bxex3
Has anybody seen anything about the injuries from yesterday. It would be a real shame if Davies missed the start of the season.
