Milk vouchers? The tories had it so people volunteering in food banks more than 16 hours a week got their benefits suspended
Yeah there use to be a thing called milk vouchers (some ppl might call them tokens) I assume they are the same thing. You could use them to pay the milkman, local convenience store or buy baby powder milk with them I think. So you didn't have the problem you have now, with people not being able to afford baby formula. I don't know why or who stopped the issue of them (probably the tories). I know they were prone to fraudulent use. I can't remember who could get them / what the conditions for getting them were. In regards the food banks bit, I know they use to raid the fruit orchards in Kent during the summer months, to catch people on benefits, way before we used migrant labour.
They were around still when my nipper was born a decade ago. Could use them for milk or fresh fruit/veg.
When I was homeless you'd always see people coming to the day centre and trying to sell them. Probably stole them tbf.
Bloke with no shirt on tried to sell me some sort of stereo on my lunchtime walk. I respect the hustle.
I knew what they were mate, think it used to come with child benefit when kids were classed as newborn. If they’ve stopped that it’s ridiculous if a family are on benefits of any sort in my opinion.
I don't know if they've stopped them, but it just seemed strange people not being able to afford baby formula, when it use to be free with vouchers, so I assume something must have changed.
Don't think you had to be on benefits to get them as I wasn't. Possibly linked to child benefit actually
I used to just say to them "look just be honest, it's for smack or beer isn't it?' And if they owned up then I'd give them a couple of quid.
Oh yeah there’s this crackhead bird I see every night who needs change to get the train home. She gets her gear on my road.
I was meaning if families are on low incomes or any type of benefit it’s crazy it’s been stopped. Can see how some things get means tested but milk vouchers or food vouchers shouldn’t have been. No justification for that other than being tight twats to be honest. can afford to build a resort in Rwanda and fly people over there but can’t give kids milk.
It appears you can still get them... If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, the Healthy Start scheme can help you: buy healthy foods like milk or fruit get free vitamins You need to be claiming certain benefits to qualify. If you’re pregnant and under 18 you can claim even if you do not receive any benefits. https://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/
The police guy stamping on the blokes head is big news and no way should that happen but the violence from the bloke getting the kicking should also not be forgotten and it seems to have been.
