I like jobe but it really grated on me how he just seemed to start all the time, a minutes clause will defo be in place if he keeps starting every game for me. He slows the attack down all the time when we try to counter or get up the pitch fast
I don't think he'll have a clause in his contract about number of minutes etc, but I can definitely see that there was a "gentleman's agreement" about it.
Jobe will be starting because his value is rocketing and he’s probably our most valuable asset moving forward for reasons not solely related to his performance. If we don’t give him much game time this season or he’s an impact sub then nobody will be wanting to shell out £25m+ for him.
He started all the time because he was our 2nd biggest goal threat last season along with being one of our better ball carriers and his ability to receive the ball in high areas. Suggesting a player who's being linked with £20m+ moves is only starting for a championship side because of a minutes clause is conspiracy theory bullshit
i think a lot had my 'impression' of quinny as the most we had to watch back then were MotD or shoot highlights but some of the stuff i saw him do on the pitch were amazing...i remember saying to my nephew 'if that philips lad learns to read quinns knock downs he could grab a few goals'
Just because some fans have other preferences for who should be playing doesn’t mean there’s a ‘minutes clause’ or ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for Jobe. Maybe it’s just that the coaches and/or the club see it differently. Based on their minutes in Spain Jobe looked a more accomplished player than Browne (I know it’s an unfair comparison, I’m being slightly flippant) and there’s no Prem clubs hovering around with fees close to £15m-£20m for Aouchiche…
Don't agree, I personally think he slowed down the team's attacks constantly and there was a very long run where he was constantly letting games pass him by where some were even saying he looked knackered but wasn't dropped once. His brother Jude asked for the same thing at Man Utd when he was close to going there - maybe there isn't a minutes clause but I can't honestly say during that big run where he looked shattered that he was starting because he was performing well
Aouchiche, if given a run, would make us way more dangerous IMO, he actively gets up the pitch a lot faster and looking at games under le bris so far, the transitions are a lot faster with him in the team. I still like jobe like I say but there was a big run where I think him in midfield wasn't working, upfront on the other hand, I do like him there
I still want Tom Cannon and I'm amazed there seems to be no buzz about him from anywhere at the moment. Is he injured?
he has been playing pre-season at Leicester not sure if he's going on loan - Nonetheless, the £6m recruit from Everton a year ago has a decent pedigree, and it seems new Foxes boss Steve Cooper wants to see what the 21-year-old Irishman can do before deciding if a loan is the best option in his development, according to The Telegraph.
It’s not that I don’t agree mate I think AA looks a player and deserves a chance in the 10 role - I’ve said for a while I don’t think Jobe is a 9 nor is he a 10 he looks perfectly suited to be an 8 or even a 6. Big enforcer type in the middle of the pitch. But as of now he’s just came off the back of a decent season and is a valuable asset so they’ll play him. This is the problem when you’re trying to develop young lads all battling for the same position
Yeh it seems he could be an odd case of barely getting in the team in the championship to playing regularly after promotion. I guess similar to Dan Neil on our promotion from league one
Many people who were going to the games and watching them complained for a good while me included that he looked shattered and games would pass him by, if we are all seeing the same thing surely I'm not just making it up
On the minutes clause thing for Jobe - as I've said I doubt its in his contract. But what I do remember is a Birmingham ITK putting on twitter (before he came to us), that one of the reasons he was looking to leave was that the club promised his Dad that he'd start X number of games when he signed his pro deal, but that he hadn't been ready so they hadn't, so they decided to take him elsewhere. It was also rumoured that the Dad was asking for similar for Jude when he made the move from Birmingham. So I absolutely would not be surprised if Speakman as part of the transaction to bring Jobe here, made such a promise. Now, whether the data is there to back up that Jobe deserved to start is another matter. He probably did. What will be interesting NOW is that Rigg is probably moving ahead of him in the pecking order, and is a Sunderland product. So if and how Jobe's minutes decrease will be interesting, as I'd say its pretty likely he will have reduced playing time this season.
That's fine, you're entirely entitled to that opinion but it's the accusations of favourable treatment or contract clauses that put the player's interests ahead of the club's that bother me. A lot of our fans (not necessarily including you in this) have a weird issue with Jobe and his family, he became a scapegoat last year for many and it was unjustified in my opinion and largely driven by conspiracy theory based agendas.
yeah for sure, I'm not trying to bring him down or come up with some weird conspiracy I just do think naturally given our options now and rigg's breakthrough I naturally ee jobe's play time decreasing and if it doesn't I'll be quite surprised
