    Must have been rough.

Looks hideous in the older photo.

Doesn't look brilliant when I see it from the train from time to time.

And yeah I didn't make it to the pub because the parking spot you mentioned (which was spot on it must be said) was ****ing miles away from it <laugh>

The weather was beyond grim as I recall too.

If you're covered in petrol you wouldn't run towards a fire mate. That my reason... everyone has their way.

First time was 1984 (I think) we were due to play it on a Saturday and were reportedly taking around 9,000 - including every knobhead in Leicestershire <laugh> ... but it got postponed and we ended up playing them midweek - still took upwards of 3,000 including me and my cousin - anyway they won 2-0, invaded the pitch at the final whistle and stormed the away end - still had all the fences up then... we were locked in for over 2 hours for own safety ...

They played Luton away in the next round <whistle>

Scholes was an excellent player. Just find the narrative around him since he retired a bit odd. And he sucks his daughter’s toes.

I would agree absolutely that the reason Scholes was so good is because of the players alongside him.

Which were Keane and then Carrick, both better than him.

Roy Keane was our best midfielder at that time, by a mile.

remember watching WHam just after Joe Cole made his debut and everyone was raving about him . After the game my conclusion was he was more interested in looking good than playing "real" football and that the young player to watch was Carrick as he just did the simple but right things with no fuss .
Never changed my opinion on them both .

Carrick is the player the England midfield should have been built around during the 'golden generation' and yet all we ever heard about was Lampard v Gerrard.

In fairness to Scholes he doesn't say any different on the odd occassion I hear him speak about it. It's slightly comparing apples with pairs like when people argue over Lampard or Gerrard. They were all excellent players but there if you're going to argue over the best then there has to be a "put your medals on the table" element to try and make something so subjective at least have an element of objectivity. In which case Keane, Carrick and Scholes all do pretty well (as does Lampard in fairness).

None of them were carried by their team-mates but all benefitted from playing with better players.

So what we saying, the England team should be built around Newcastle lads? Gascoigne->Shearer->Carrick->Big Dan Burn? I hear you.

Hoping we can do some sort of deal and sign him. Doubt it’ll happen. On £50k a week apparently.

For context gerrard won everything possible in club football bar the title.

Carried Liverpool virtually on his own for over a decade

Twice the player lamps scholes or gazza could ever be.
