Gascoigne is described by the National Football Museum as "widely recognised as the most naturally talented English footballer of his generation."

.... funnily enough ... MacManaman and Waddle aren't ....<whistle>
No, but Cryuff described McManaman as everyone's best partner while he was at Real Madrid (winning 2 x la liga and 2 x CL), and Zidane called him one of the highest quality players he'd ever played with.

McManaman would've still had a great career if he was around now, but Gazza would've had a career like Ravel Morrison.
Talent is nothing without the will to use it to it's full.

A few of us hoping to get tickets to Millwall away this year.

You done that?

Yeah twice including last season.

I wouldn't bother if London Bridge is shut, the Met kettled us for about an hour and a half for the walk from Canada Water and we missed KO the ****s.

You going up to the Charlton friendly same day we're at Millwall?

This sounds like the sort of bollocks people say about Scholes.

He would if he went :bandit:

Called it a day (more or less) after 2015/16 in terms of going to the games - last one was the League Cup game where you failed miserably to get to our pub meet...<whistle>

... but think Luv was meaning my journey to the in-laws in Wales ... which is still a pretty regular event <laugh>

At least Scholes had an actual career, with success to back it up.

It's the one thing about Gazza that I'd go against, that he's described as a 'great'. He wasn't, he was merely a very talented footballer who, bar England, didn't even play at the top end of the game.

Can't argue with any of this. I love Gazza as a footballer but his career was very meh.

I don't agree with some who are saying he wouldn't have made it now though, young talent is handled very differently now than it was then and whilst in the 80's he was pretty much left to look after himself off the pitch people quickly realised once money flooded into the game that these assets needed protecting. Young players are looked after much more nowadays and it means someone like Foden gets to have a very different experience to the one Gazza had.

That's why I don't think he'd make it in today's game, as I can't see someone with Gazza's personality lasting in the regimented and controlled environment of the modern youth system, he would quit or get thrown out imo. I used Ravel Morrison as an example because he was supremely talented and wasted it.
