He was a good player, absolutely, but I've just never heard him compared to Gazza or Hoddle in terms of quality.
I've not heard many (any) ex-pros state that Waddle or McManaman were the best they'd ever played with or against - Gazza on the other hand I've heard it many, many times. Anyhow... Youtube will reveal the truth.
I think there's definite racism there tbh. There's two main things I'd say: a) They're saying that they aren't really French and not only that they are lumping all none-white people into one mass with comments like "they are all from Angola". There's lots of reasons why the n word and the p word aren't acceptable and one of the main ones is that they're used to say "you're not one of us" and to pigeon-hole people together in a lazy and incorrect manner (like people from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh or, you know, Britain being called p*ki by some). To me it's bascially saying you don't belong to those players, many of whom were born in France, and as Bod says it's none of their business - and incorrect both morally and factually. b) The use of the word cometravas (which i had to google but apparently means people who like to have sex with transvetites?). It's stereotyping a group of people in a negative way on the basis of the colour of their skin. That's pretty racist.
that’s why I added the wink. Couldn’t find a link that wasn’t showing as broken. Sorry to drag you in so early
Missed the one other career highlight for Gazza, his SF free kick against Arsenal. So we have an assist against Belgium in 90, a decent 90 mins against Netherlands in 96 and a great goal against Scotland. Oh, some YouTube highlights. He scored a decent goal for Everton back in the day, but other than that?
I don't think there's much debate over the fact he wrecked his career (and had a bad injury). When you look at what he did/ didn't do in the game it really makes you appreciate what Rooney achieved as they both gave me a similar vibe and yet Rooney managed to win everything at club level and his highlights reel would be 10 times the length. What is hard to gauge is that with better balls and pitches and with refereeing being VERY different there are some of the skills being shown in that video which you simply see a lot more of these days and as such the highlights of Alan Saint-Maximan probably looks better than those of Gazza but that's just a reflection on the times they played.
It’s all about opinion. In my view the three I mention did it just as well but for longer and at a time pitches were a mess too. you could look all misty eyed about his injury, if he went to United etc, but ultimately he didn’t achieve what he could have.
Don't rate Guehi myself. Rooney took his career seriously, Gazza was just incapable of taking anything seriously.
"Just bantz" **** off will you, it's blatant racism. It's a shame that some want to dress this up as something else.
"You white Frenchies are so **** at football you had to import black Africans to be any good" Is that the racist bit?
No labelling all the black people as from Angola is. In the same way as labelling South Asians as p*kis is.
They are implying that they've imported a bunch of black people from Africa who are good at running about to play for France when they should not be there. I could use other language to highlight my point but the implications are clear to me. Perhaps not to you but that's up to you innit.
Ern I like you and I'm going to be polite. The message you wrote above is basically French = white, Black = African. Also the idea of white people importing black people for tasks is fairly Slavery-esque.
It's a diss against the whole nation. France actively went searching through their former colonies for sporting excellence starting in the late 80's so they'd win something. And, despite France having the best players from all those nations, Argentina still beat them in the World cup final. That is what the song is about.
