I agree, fair to question taking Newcastles 4th best English full back and playing him out of position though.
Yeah I think Bellingham’s physical strength a bit deeper would have been better against that pressure but Mainoo has done so well it would have been a hard call before the game. Maybe it was a half time call. Palmer, Saka and Foden feel like a real threat but none have Bellingham’s physicality and I think we needed that.
Apologies, I’ll just drop a message to the moderators and tell them to close the forum then because as fans we aren’t allowed to have an opinion so what’s the point in having a forum
I disagree, I’m not sure how Yamal would’ve found the central player when stones was running in just ahead of him, he had no intentions of peeling off stones otherwise he would’ve. But just my opinion, as mentioned above it’s the easiest thing in the world to sit here and criticise. They’re at the very highest level for a reason
Bellingham was running on fumes in the 2nd half. Southgate needed to be brave enough to hook him. Having said all that, he was capable of amazing moments so it's removing that ability from the pitch that was a risk. I think (like his brother) he is better as a No.8
sticking with Kane was a mistake, and poor defending for that 2nd goal, should get back to 4-4-2, anyhow Howe should be next manager ! or Ancelloti
Tell you what though, Pickford done us all proud all tournament. The underuse of Palmer was a frustration. I look at Spain, they deserved to win, they haven’t a weight of players behind that side. We have a pile of them. We didn’t play our best side once. Another 2 year wait won’t hurt.
Really wouldn't be a shock if he adds the 2026 World Cup to this. Yamal and Williams with two more years of development will take some stopping.
Gave it a go, tried to win by defending but came up short. I said if we won the euros I believe Southgate deserved a crack at the world cup, however, I think it's time. 8 years is a great run.
L Maybe not but he was being picked ahead of the No.1 left back in the tournament. What it might have done was give us balance from the off with results being better, an improved performance, more confidence and momentum. Southgate goes for me. It was awful boring football that when we have the Premier League, Spanish and German players of the season being held back.
Best side won, can't argue with that. Frustrating that we sat off them again after getting to 1-1. Wanted to see us keep pressing from the front with Watkins, Palmer and another. We seemed to be getting joy doing that and forcing Spain's keeper to kick it long. Miles off the quality of Spain so lots of ground to make up. Congratulations to them.
If Southgate goes I hope the FA aren't looking for a young up-and-coming French coach with a burgeoning Mackem accent. If they do they can do one.
Not sure the quality is miles off. They had pace and power in the wings and were willing to use it. We played compact defensive football like Greece used to win it back in 2004.
