How rich or famous do you have to be before you’re assassinated rather than just murdered?

JFK was assassinated. I’ve seen the term used for John Lennon. But Jill Dando was just murdered, so the bar presumably is somewhere between her and that overrated Scouser.

By dictionary definition...Assissination is
murder for political or religious reasons.

So Lennon should have been murdered not assissinated..

Ghandi was assissinated whilst Versace was murdered even if the TV series aaid he was assissinated.

I'd say you have to be a leader of men (and women) to qualify for assassination. Perhaps even limited to a top political post, to remove them from their position, but not necessarily official. Martin Luther King for example was assassinated. Lennon and Dando were murdered.

That’s what I was thinking but then a mate said “then why are they called political assassinations?”
