I'll just leave that there. £40m+ was never going to happen. Based on a £21m operating loss 2 seasons ago (offset by KLP sale) Id suspect around a £25m loss last season. Hopefully salary to revenue is now under 130% so we may stop haemorrhaging money week by week. We don't have £60m to spent and we have 1/2 a team. It could be a very challenging season.

If we make a profit this year it doesn't matter how close last year's loss takes us to the limit.. We also barely spent anything on transfer fees last year (1/4 of Philogenes fee + Pandur + abdush offset by Tufan sale).

The Bree one is odd as it's a position that's not close to being a priority right now, and I thought we'd have gone young and more dynamic and probably a lot cheaper.

Lewie is absolutely fine and it's a position we can look at in 12 months, hopefully, when we have a more settled squad. But for a club that's meant to have tight resources, it just doesn't make sense.

EDIT: Had a look and just saw that he only played RB once last year, assuming because of KWP and he played LB and CB more often. If he's going to be a utility man, it makes more sense.
I certainly think that would be the case. He can play all the way across and has stood out at this level when he was at Luton

We are selling our major assets to just break even and relying too heavily on loans. We end up with £30m talent gone, half a team and little money to invest. Unless we can keep pulling off master strokes like JP every year this is not sustainable.

Completely agree. Acun has put us into a financial mess. And somehow the fans idolise him for doing so.

That's like me saying, Acun has managed to engage with fans and fill the stadium and somehow the fans criticise him for doing so.

I'm not sure what constitutes a financial mess but going into the window with funds to spend on players isn't it for me. The sentiment was always that we have to be careful as we would be skirting close to the line in order to compete with the big hitters in the league. I'm not saying there aren't other strategies and safer ways to do business.

I’m not sure it’s a financial mess. Having to sell 2 players to rebuild a squad is just the way football is. By the end of the window we might have a very strong squad and an excellent manager who might take us up.

If not, he’ll just manage the 39 million loss over 3 seasons again and add to the squad as best we can until we get it right on the field.

It’s an exciting time to be a City fan.

Utilising (high quality) loans surely makes good sense for us and the club have rightly said that this strategy will continue. But, as others have said, the loans should add that dollop of x factor on top of a very solid core and spine. We currently just don't have that solid core and spine in place; and that fact is pretty scandalous at this stage in Acuns ownership. Meaning players who are very good dependable settled top half championship level players who give continuity, are tied up on long term deals and unlikely to get poached by PL clubs. Think Coyle, Jones, Slater - except it should be 10 or more not 3. Then you have a handful of academy players knocking on the door. and being blooded intelligently rather than out of desperation.
It really isn't difficult but sorry to say our 'brains trust' has failed miserably to date with the basics. They need to start getting it right this time; hopefully expensive lessons have finally been learnt.

I’d also like to point out that Walter just got a tune out of a front 3 of Omur, Lokilo and Longman :emoticon-0104-surpr

Things sound positive on the pitch but I have to say, although I don't have negative feelings towards Baz and his reporting in general, I have often tended to disagree with his match ratings and game summaries so I'll have to see for myself before I get too carried away.

Yesterday’s game. We apparently looked very good first half with these 3 up top.

In a friendly which is absolutely meaningless and a whole world away from competitive championship football
But i guess baz is the propaganda peice
We dont need signings
We have lokilo and longman upfront

Mike White and Baz both said it was a promising performance. I’m not getting carried away but with additions, which will be coming…this is a big step forward from our previous Turkey friendlies/non events.

Interesting point regarding the Philogene deal. I saw Sky Sports report that he signed a pre-contract with them as part of our deal last year. Meaning if Villa triggered their clause to buy him back, Philogene has no choice but to sign for them, even if he wanted to sign for Ipswich or Barcelona.
.
That's against many laws in UK, also against rules of FIFA. Such transfer would never go through and be registered to transfer matching system of FIFA.

Pre season games have no bearing on teams competitive games

They have absolutely no bearing on competitive games but they definitely point to a style of play and how effective we are at it. Under Rosenior our pre-season offerings were often very, very dull.

We have a threadbare squad with a lack of quality yet performed at a level that offers hope moving forward.

It’s nothing more than that, but it’s all we have to judge Walter by so far and after one friendly it’s promising.

Nothing wrong with hope i suppose
But we could win them all 5-0 and it doesnt mean anything until game day 1
