The fact we were favourites was just because we in England think we are world beaters.
Everyone in Europe where not betting on us.

Much like most knockout competitions in professional sport actually. The idea is to provide the watching audience with a clash of the best teams for the latter stages.
Sport was entertaining before that actually more so.. it was also called a fair competition.
Most sports have always been like that. In tennis the previous years winner didn’t have to play until the final.
If we play extra time tomorrow then Spain have to sub off Yamal as German law prohibits under 18’s from ‘working’ after 11 pm on Sunday.
Most haven't actually... sports are what they are now because audiences flocked to watch them.... not because they made it better by fixing the big nations routes while making the underdog story ever more impossible.
It's interesting because I'm against all this along with PSR FFP which is the same type of nonsense thrown in by people with grubby hands.
If they put names in a hat it would be more interesting... this competition the top 3 went through from the groups and all that following an easy passage through the qualifiers.. there's nothing on the games .. if big nations go out that's entertainment....it's all a lie... ...sport is about the underdog story .. that's the story we all want.

Yeah this is my point.... they put the best in a nice still pool and the not so good in rough waters.
Ultimately they remove the opportunity for the one day when the wind was blowing the wrong way for the elite.
I can literally guarantee that everyone was enjoying the passion of the lesser nations and their fans more than the elite.
Get them in a fair competition at least...make it sport...stop removing chance.
