Regarding Greaves. I heard today that he is in fact not pushing for the move and did want to stay another year. This move was done at large by the club. Dont know if he's now happy given it is premier league football but it is a deal being forwarded by the club.
If Shota wanted to play out from the back then the 'brain team' signing Figs is unforgivable. It's irrelevant that he had a solid 6 months at Forest, you could see immediately that he can't play out from the back. It shows to me that we were recruiting from a statistical model rather than actually watching players. Stats are great but you need to do both. I get we've improved last year a bit but that Figs one is a horrendously basic error. We saw in the Grant era that if you sign players that fit your style you can be successful (relatively speaking) with a lower quality of player. I'd rather we sign players that fit Tim's style perfectly, rather than makeshift ones even if we're signing a lower standard. On the flip side, at least you'll be able to move them on quicker and easier as they won't be on the same wages.
New RoI Manager, just appointed yesterday, was watching Jarvis tonight (probably not aware that he ain't eligible!!!). Anyone remember him...Euro 2016 ring a bell???
Like I said to you the other day when you tried to point to our accounts to demonstrate why we're already close to the line, you can't just use the accounts to calculate FFP. Norwich may well have invested a lot in their academy or stadium leading to those losses. They were also in the PL three years ago which has a different loss threshold, although I think that drops out of their cycle now.
To be fair I only made that point because he deceived people into thinking he was decent for the back 3 he might’ve been
The worry is he was our back up to Greaves so not only are we now looking to replace Greaves but we're looking to replace his back up. So there's absolutely zero continuity in that position. Part of what I like about the Moore signing on a 3 year deal is it gives us continuity (unless he's crap and we loan him out for the last two years of his deal a la Oscar). What we should be doing with our strikers, since we have a blank slate, is signing Moore, perhaps keeping or selling Oscar, and getting a young understudy. My analogy the other day about my kitchen cupboard. You have your food in the fridge that you're working your way through, and then you have another bottle of sauce or syrup or whatever in the cupboard just in case you run out of whats in the fridge before you make it to the shops again. We have Moore and another first choice striker and should have a young backup in the building on a permanent deal. That way if/when Moore runs out of legs or moves on, we have a ready made replacement and continuity in the squad. It's not rocket science.
We hired him because of his style so will be hilarious if he comes here and parks the bus and is more dour than Liam was.
Giving a 32 year old a 3 year deal is never wise. I know Sharp was older but he showed that once legs are gone, they're gone. After selling Greaves + Jaden for £40m ish it's an absolute disaster that we aren't in a position to go out and spend £25m this window because of past window **** ups. You also throw in Allsop going for almost £1m, Tufan going for £1.5m and the likely departures of Longman, Giles, Lokilo and maybe McLoughlin and there's probably another £5m there. You do wonder where the money has gone. And I don't blame McLoughlin for wanting to go, he's barely played for us last year and he won't be a starter next year either. I suppose we've got that little bit of cover knowing that Coyle is decent at centre half if we need to use him there short term.
It should be £25m on transfer fees. Cov received about £35m last summer and spent about £33m so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect us to spend £25m when we'll be seeing in excess of £50m including add-ons.
Players are always better when they aren't playing/haven't been given a chance in the eyes of fans. Multiple managers have passed over on him and Tim doesn't seem to want to bring him back either. It's like Danny Emerton all over again.
Assuming we have a recall option, their transfer window runs from the 1st to the 28th July, so if said clause is there, that's how long we have to recall him.
I suppose the difference is that Danny Emerton didn't go out and smash in a cracker of a loan spell and score goals in Europe.
But realistically it's a loan spell at National League level. And the European side he scored against was from the Gibraltar league.
Hey they all count. I'd say it's more like League Two/bottom end of League One standard than the National League in terms of club sizes.
There’s some on the Shels Dan Group who think the European game was Jarvis’ last game for them, as there’s a rumour we’ve recalled him.
