What's peoples thoughts on that I feel Saka and Foden cannot play in the same team, I'm no tactician clearly, but when Southgate took both off yesterday, I felt he should have left Foden on but switched him. Not forgetting Cole Palmer asked for a move to Chelsea because he saw what he was up against to get in the team.
You could definitely argue that Foden would be better on the RW instead of the LW. I thought taking off Saka and replacing him with Bowen was the wrong move. Saka’s replacement should have been Palmer but I think Southgate wanted to go a bit more direct and pacey with Watkins and Bowen. It didn’t work.
Funnily I was going to mention about Palmer, but deleted that bit, just remembering he asked for a move for similar reasons. I would defo of tried one of those two that side by now. Oh I didn't delete it lol. It's ok I'm only just about to eat...just in time I think.
He’s so inept it’s almost impressive. The ability to make great players look **** is pretty much a gift. Just a shame he manages England and not France, Spain or Germany.
Slovaks deservedly lead. Decent header. Liking their tactics as well in general, at one point there were 7 players pressing in the Ukraine half.
Shame the Slovaks couldn’t keep that style up, definitely tired whilst Ukraine have grown into it. Very decent finish from Yaremchuk there too. Another good game in general.
Why play Foden wide at all? - when you have Saka, Gordon, Bowen and Eze who are all more effective there ... Bellingham has to start games - the real question is who else is in the centre - Rice for me as the defensive shield ... but I'd then play Palmer or Eze in there and bring Foden on for one of them later in the game when the holes are beginning to appear ...
Wharton is the obvious player to complement Rice but he won’t bring him in mid-tournament. More likely to play Gallagher to run around without being able to pass ten yards.
I'd say Foden would be more effective there, I seem to feel you've not liked Foden since before this tournament kicked off - I'm going to blame your lack of seeing SKY Sports, because otherwise you would know that Foden has often been City's best performer. I'd say he outweighs any of them you have mentioned. I sort of get your point in the past with Kane, but can't be arsed to argue with others about him, but Southgate doing what he is with Foden is just criminal....probably why I'm no tactician mind....but come to think of it, neither is the twat in charge of the England team lol.
Actually a big fan - and if we hadn't got Bellingham he'd be the first name on my team sheet... but the balance is all wrong ... and something has to give.. Spain last night with those 2 quick wide men and Pedri behind were a fantastic watch and that side was incredibly well balanced ... Foden could do the same job as Pedri ... ... but would that work including Bellingham... and we can't drop Bellingham
Or Stones, then Rice can with a bit more freedom. Trent as RB and play Walker as RCB alongside Guehi. Drop Foden and have Gordon on the LW. More balanced team then.
Feels like a lot of square pegs in round holes. I like my square pegs in square holes. So much easier to get them in. Unless you make the hole bigger so it doesn’t matter what size peg. Not sure how you even make a square hole. Anyway play ****ing Wharton.
