That was a really poor performance and no player can really say they gave anywhere near enough. Other than Watkins maybe. That said, we’ve got 4 points from two games and we’ve still got a least another couple of gears to go through. I don’t actually think there’s much wrong with the team selection. But the coaching is baffling, I don’t know what Southgate is telling them, but they seem to playing as a disjointed unit who don’t really know their game plan.
If they employed a good manager I suspect they'd have won something. Thankfully once they've been put out their misery he'll be gone.
Yes and i know that midfielders should play in midfield not centre backs and right backs, the two players we have in the squad who can actually pass a ball are left on the bench (Mainoo and Wharton)
This is certainly Southgates last tournament, no? If he wins , he'll bow out on a high... If he fails, the public is ready for his blood. Can't see him still being manager for the World Cup.
He is basically a sunday league manager who got the job because he missed a penalty and the FA feel sorry for him.
I went to Wikipedia's "Gareth" Page to find a Gareth to prove you wrong... But I couldn't. It appears your theory is correct.
His only other senior managerial job involved getting relegated with Middlesbrough, lol. The only thing I’ll give him credit for is being able to unify the dressing room. In previous eras too many egos got in the way of that. Praise stops there though, because his tactics, selections and general management is a joke.
We didn't win anything with him, obviously, but Fabio was my favourite English manager in memory. Not the most exciting brand of football, but he's the only manager that we've had in my living memory that really got the most out of the squad.
The dressing room is the most boring dressing room ever assembled... use a Southgate for a week a day you'll remove the egos, but use a Southgate for a decade and the entire countries soul will fade away.
