How many times has that been said over the years... We've had so many golden generations. We've got some good players but overall our defence isn't a cup winning defence. Our goal keeper isn't a cup winning goalkeeper. We've got some real stars but the majority of the squad are not cup winning quality. The national bias just always seeps in expecting glory.

All in all we're a semi/quarters quality team and that's probably where we finish... Be it with boring Southgate tactics, or more exciting tactics with someone else.

We're a good side but not a great side. There are pieces of the puzzle missing.

It's a cup competition.

So Anthony Gordon gets player of the tournament at the U21's last year then scores 10 and assists 10 in the league. More importantly - and I think this kind of thing flies under the radar at times - his goals came against Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham. He's a big game player (my main issue is him going missing in the "little" games).

He's not getting on the pitch this tournament is he?

Our defenders as well as our holding players are more than good enough to manage Serbia and Denmark while our world class attacking players play cohesive attacking football.

Mate ... he was only in the squad as cover for Harry Maguire (Gareth's cunning plan 3b) .. and now that Harry ain't here ...

If I'd been a gambling man I'd probably gone for the draw, both teams want to avoid a defeat more than win as it pretty much ensures qualification.

The problem isn't the defence, it's the fact we are inviting pressure by sitting back and have no cohesion going forward. You do that even with world class defenders and you'll put them under the same pressure.

Oh they did. He got pelters for being reluctant to play Gazza, for example. Even though Gazza was a ****ing liability for much of his career.
