It didn't end there. In Buenos Aires I made friends with an Argie whose Dad was Scottish, and he invited a load of fans to his flat for dinner. Later that year he came over ere, and I put him up for a short while before he set off on a tour of Scotland, where he also met some of the other fans. He arrived back in London a few weeks later completely skint, and I put him up again while he contacted his wife to ask for the money for his flight home. Wisely, she sent him a flight ticket instead, and after dropping him at the airport I never heard from him again, despite writing to him. I do wonder if he was one of Galtieri's Disappeared.

A draw for England this evening I think. Going to stick with 2-2 even though I was not close with the same guess for the Serbia game.

A shame he did not return your kindness by keeping in touch.

It's an odd feature of this tournament.
They wanted a 'World Cup' style format I suppose - a knockout round of 16 before the quarter-Final round.
But they didn't want to have 32 teams in the group stages. Too many games and too many minnows I guess.

So we're going from 24 group stage teams down to 16 in the first knock-out round.
So only 8 teams will be eliminated after all the group games; the six who finish 4th in their group plus the two poorest 3rd place teams.
It's actually harder to get eliminated than it is to qualify (in a way).
It's bonkers isn't it.

Similar to being knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers then going into the Europa, if that still applies.
