Consensus seems to be that Cambodia is great ... but Laos can be a bit dodgy

Got back from Cascais last weekend, after a five day trip.

Really lovely place, although didn't get round to Lisbon itself.

No pics though, unless you fancy some golf course vistas and daft middle aged blokes on the piss?

    Thought not!

From videos I've seen of this trade, it's the wet markets that are the problem, so I guess if you can avoid them, but never been.

Best start packing, off to an overnight hotel stay in the morning, then off to Norway for a week.
Some nice hill walking, overlooking the fjords.

Only been to Norway for a footie tournament in the early 90s - but loved it - teams were put up in the former winter Olympic Village chalets in Lillehammer - amazing scenery and cleanest air I've ever breathed ...

Me and 4 mates are off for a (old) boys only trip to Majorca tomorrow for a week of watching all the Euro matches.
Staying in a lovely villa and hopefully we get some sun and good football.
Then back for a couple of days then off to Germany as have tickets for last 16 match, and can’t wait.

Didn't get my Half Dome permits in the US parks bonkers lottery system, so I can only apply again now 2 days before I want to hike it. I don't want to pin all of my hopes on that, so if we don't get permits, we'll hike Clouds Rest instead.

Managed to get reservations for Yellowstone national park though. 4 days in the park and we have to be in a hard sided RV because it's right in the middle of Grizzly Bear transit areas.

If I'm not fighting off a Grizzly with my penknife when I'm cooking a steak on the bbq in the evenings then I'm asking for a refund :bandit:

@brb decided on Lecce for the holiday next summer but we're going to drive it. Got a simple plan at the moment through France and Switzerland then down the coast.

Excellent mate, I've never driven across Europe but Chief and also my lad have done it enough times. Tbph with the temps in Puglia it will be nice to have an air conditioned car to get about in. Also parts of Puglia can be a bit remote which was one of my concerns when I've looked at there, although not so around the City (Lecce), at least with a car you really will be able to explore.

    Cool road trip that.

I'm re-reading Jack Kerouac before my US trip.

    Get into the road vibes

One site of historical importance (UNESCO) down that way is The Sassi di Matera (Casa Grotta), which is a couple of hours drive from Lecce (North West I think), hard to believe people use to live in those caves until 1950's, if you are into that sort of thing. Plus you have the Puglia houses (Trullo/Trulli) one location I know is Alberobello about 1hr 20 mins on the way down to Lecce as a rough guide.

I've done all the Monterey coast, but never the actual bits you are doing. I had to look at a map when you said the bits you were doing before, because it all seemed quite some distance, but wasn't too bad once I could put into perspective on a map.

Yeah it's about 3000 miles altogether. But we're there for a month, so no huge rush. We've booked campgrounds in Yosemite and Yellowstone because they fill up quick. But for the rest of it we're just going to wing it.

Once of the good things about the US state national parks service is that a lot of the campgrounds are just drive up, pay for a ticket a bit like a normal car park and then go and find your pitch.

Also when you're travelling, you get chatting to people who recommend different places, so we want to be open to go with the flow and not stick too rigidly to an itinerary

A month, that's brilliant, didn't realise you was going for so long, I meant to ask that.

I went for two weeks and did at least 2k in miles, so 3k will be no trouble over a month, although you will be at slower speeds because I think you said you have a motorhome. Yeah if you can keep your itinerary flexiable that's good - it's what I did, then when you come across surprise places like Solvang and think wtf lol, you have time to stop and look around.
