Dragging on big time now in my opinion. I keep trying to analyse why it is dragging on so much.
I dont believe it is because we are going through a long list. I dont believe the likes of Robinson are in contention either. I doubt somebody like Jansen is a long process either, out of work etc.
Has to be because either they have their man, and there is a hold up with lawyers and contracts. Or they are chasing hard one target but it is competitive, ie Still. I do hope it is the former not the latter. As a wise man once said it is not how long you wait, but what you are waiting for.
I have to say though I think we are losing ground the longer it takes. Any new guy will have a lot of catching up to do. The free agent conversations will be happening and even if we think our head coach doesnt sign players, I am 100% certain players want to talk to their new coach before signing. Then we have players agents who may well be restless, our players that is. Not to mention the work needed for any new coach to learn about the squad he is inheriting and plan his pre season accordingly. Pre season is the most important time for a coach, particularly a new one. That doesnt just commence when the players report back. A lot of prep work is needed before that date. The head coach is the one who designs that pre season, because every last detail is about preparing for the way he wants the team to play. Years ago it was running and running. Nowadays it is much more about the way we will play as players generally come back pretty fit on day one. I wouldnt be surprised if some arent in and around the academy from next week doing their own fitness regime. A great chance for a new coach to have a coffee and get to know individuals, another huge part of what he will have to do.
Lets hope we get someone in their office next week and working long hours. I think long hours are going to be needed to get us ready to start well this season.
