Ther's some lovely countryside funnily enough - worked in Brentwood for 6 months or so 2018/19 ... the towns, not so nice - Romford etc..
It has a nice pier. And lots of fish and chip restaurants full of old people wearing coats and hats in summer. The beach is pebbles iirc. My cousin, who is quite racist, has a caravan there and talks about retiring to Clacton (to be with all the other racists, I suppose). On balance, it’s **** and miles from anywhere decent, but there are some nice coastal walks.
If Farage wins the seat, I can see him taking over the Tory party. Becomes party leader, probably takes Tice with him.
Security being kept on their toes today with Macron and Biden wanting do walkabouts, agents looking hot and flustered.
There's some talk that this GE could finish the Tories. I don't know about that, seems a bit far-fetched but two things I would say... They'll be weak as piss and rudderless, no big powerhouses left. Big vacuum for someone like Farage to come in. Secondly, the party's been taken over by the extremes of the right wing and they'll be the ones taking control of what's left of it after the GE. Once again perfect for Farage to be welcomed in.
I think people just tend to over speculate when you see the current plight of the Tories. Time heals everything, whether you are Labour or Tory, and three terms is the general maximum, something upsets the apple cart (financial crash) and the fallen party become popular again. I can see why people might think it would work with Farage but it would be a fooking disaster, the only way that would happen is if this country suddenly took a swing to the hard right, and it would take some massive event for that to happen. As for Tice he's a dictator in waiting, best just nod politely at him and then forget him. Labour bit, clearly marked for Trebs to understand: I'm no fan of people coming over on boats, but that's just poor relations with our neighbours caused that. Plus it's a disaster for the infrastructure if it's not properly costed for. As for working migrants, I'm compeletly happy with them as long has they are not being used to undercut British workers, but I would hope those problems has been sorted out, with the exception of any that work illegally, black market or whatever it's called, where they are abused. Strangely enough I'm actually confident that Labour will sort this out, so that migrants come over in a proper fashion and relieve some of the finanical pressure off Dover and KCC. We'll see obviously.
I disagree with the country needing to swing hard to the right. Not after a single event. These sorts of things happen gradually, become the accepted norm, and before you know it you have a lunatic in charge. It creeps up on you, then when it all goes to pot ppl look back and wonder how the fck did that happen? With regards to the migrant my thinking is this. Of course 1.5 million ppl are going to cause a strain on public services IF you've spent years dismantling them at the same time. We've been paying the highest pverall taxes for a few years. Where the fck has that money gone?? Syphoned off to some rich ****s that's where. Getting rid of every one of those migrants aint going to make public services anywhere near where they should be. It won't make rape convictions any better, it won't make the trains run any better, it won't get the 100,000 doctors we're short of or dent the 7.5 million on the waiting list, it won't make the backlog in our courts go through any faster, it won't improve our schools which are crumbling to bits, it won't help with the thousands of SEN children whose needs are being criminally ignored, and it won't get the **** out of our rivers and lakes. How can anyone be allowed to get away with this?
I've seen talk of the Lib Dems somehow becoming the opposition, which is nowhere near reality. But inside talk seems to suggest they're aiming for 50 seats without losing any. So obviously 60+ seats, putting them back on Clegg numbers. That could see the Tories being not so far ahead of the liberals and certainly that might make some of them nervous, it might encourage idiotic ideas to salvage the party. But one bad election won't kill the Tories, it will require poor crisis management and another party having extremely good post election management. If the Tories go for Farage or Suella I think they're ****ed.
You've gone off on to a bit of a rant, so maybe I'll just say what I said again in a different way... It's not fair on Dover or Kent that it should have to pick up the tab for the migrants crossing on boats, wherever the money has gone, it don't help that situation and we will pay a long term cost for that. I've seen a fair number of people on here take pops over speaking out about the boats, but generally I tend to find it's a case of not on my doorstep, lots of promises by UK councils, but very little action in way of support. Hopefully Labour will stop this problem by cracking the gangs. In regards to legal working migrants, I have no problem, as long as they are not abused as we did with lorry drivers as we did with farm hands, and those that work in sweatshops, needs me to say nowt, it needs addressing. My experience of migrants is they are generally hard working and do the jobs that Brits might not want to do which I tend to find is more in catering, where you have to put up with ignorant customers. As for rivers and lakes...
The Lib Dems worry me, could they be an escape route for the Tories to get some sort of hold in the commons, I hope not, after the last pact, it makes one cautious.
That won't ever happen again imo. Clegg made a bad decision, he actually made an election pledge to have a coalition with "whoever is the largest party" Cameron had a snap election planned it has now been revealed to gain a majority and I think the Libs simply didn't have the money for a other campaign. Dodgy ****in Dave
Nah ... to give it an intellectual, highbrow analogy ... Nobody would tread in dogshit on purpose now, would they? ...
You brought up migrants ffs Farage don't give a fook about Dover mate. He doesn't care whether they're hard working or do the jobs brits don't want to. Btw kind of ironic you saying that after voting Brexit and moaning about the influx of eastern europeans to pick fruit lol. Farage doesn't give a fck about public services either BUT the difference is that's all he's been banging on about for the past week when it comes to migrants. Migrants are causing the crisis in our public services apparently!!! That whole argument is bollox as I've posted.
I hope you are right mate. Regarding Labour, it was good that Keir kicked off his campaign in Kent ie Gillingham, just a shame he didn't kick it off in the High St rather that behind closed doors. It's also a shame he snubbed Rose Duffield in Canterbury, but Keir clearly has a problem with women who speak out, I suppose this is what happens when you have a Tory light. Unfortuantely Duffield don't have the same media attraction as Diane Abbott, but it's clearly set a picture in my mind that maybe at 61 years of age he's part gammon and I expect him to be leading the front line in the battle of Clacton, other than all that Labour are sound.
Eh?...I was thinking about Labour policy, what's Farage got to do with it, you've attached the first and second paragraph to the third and fourth, maybe you should have just asked what I meant, poorly worded by me and you went on a tirade, calm down ffs The clue was in the fourth paragraph where I said I hope Labour would sort this out, (in fact I'm pretty confident they will). Unless you think Labour are racist?
You literally quoted my post about Farage and in the same post went off on one about migrants. You can't blame me for linking the two. Shall I say it, fck off brb
