as Sucky would say mate, bent af, George Graham taking brown envelope payments. <laugh>
Course it’s always been that way
And it will never change imho

what gets my goat is when someone says that what Pep has done is amazing and he is the dogs doo dads and ……yawn

is he a good manager
Yeah - course he is

but he is playing fantasy football with no jeopardy

I have no problems with what City have won (either of them lol <laugh>) I have a slight slant on the fantasy that what they have achieved is breathtaking

IF City have not been playing by the now rules it does take something away from what Pep has done but it doesn’t remove the fact he did it to me - nor should it

but when he moaned about others spending 100mil and he hasn’t
The difference was Pep buys a player for 60mil thinks he is bobbins - he can just push him to one side and bring in another bobbins 60mil player and repeat till he gets one that isn’t bobbins - this looks ruthless when it’s just fantasy football imho

most clubs have to make the best of their mistakes
But that’s the crux of the difference to me

it’s like having a Ferrari in a race with another Ferrari but one has parts for a Skoda Sat spare whilst one Ferrari has Ferrari parts
But it still requires a good mechanic to get them all working

anyway I am babbling
Gonna go off to coach the Wildcats and then my arsey teenagers lmao <laugh>

You're younger than I thought mate <whistle>

I'm younger than Fosse and Diego, but older than Archers, just! <laugh>

I didn't really get into WC proper until around 74 but I was already into league football by then, my parents couldn't have given a **** about footie, it was only my mate that got me into going to games.

1974 the first world cup I remember, properly remember that is, I remember my dad saying something about England in the year 1966, I think we must have won it or something.

For me it was 1970 ,(Mexico) was 10 years old - being 2-0 up against Germany in the Q/F only to lose 3-2 - playing Brazil in the group stage and THAT Gordon Banks save from Pele - semi final between Italy and the Germans and that wonderful final ...

:emoticon-0159-music Back home, they'll be thinking about us ... :emoticon-0159-music

I remember shouting "Grandad" at Archers at wolves away cos he got me a senior ticket accidentally so he had to use it to get in.

I probably do remember 1970, but it was 1974 I was getting all crazy about the game. I can remember Pele being mentioned numerous times and some fantastic save by Banks that like most things was over exaggerated but it makes us feel good.

None of us lesser lights (and especially not Citeh) are spending more than we can 'afford' <doh>... it's peanuts to billionaires ... and that's the whole point ...

Did you know that Ocado didn't turn a profit for over 20 years from inception?... but continued to invest in the business model during that time - spending more and more year by year ...

Uber still hasnt turned a profit, to this day, but has been around for more than a decade.
They lose all their money to their drivers, but people are still investing, ya know why?
Because they are waiting for driverless cars to become a thing.

The problem is that when a team starts to do well they start to lose players to teams who can offer 4x times the amount. Yeah teams can have the odd good season like us/Leicester/Brighton but maintaining it is a whole new thing.

There's no realistic way a smaller club can bridge the gap and maintain it under FFP. Even if their owners have the money to burn.

We've gone through that very thing though, we've lost Carrick, Berbatov, Modric, Bale, Walker and even recently Kane all to bigger clubs, that's just the footballing food chain. Real Madrid are probably the only club on the planet that will never lose a key player unless they actually want to sell.

Where we've done much better to most others though is we've invested in infrastructure, that alone is arguably the biggest key in becoming more financially dominant. Levy's got his critics, especially from footballing aspects as he's ****ing braindead on that but from a business perspective I'd argue he's one of the best in the game.

I don't consider Spurs a bigger club than the likes of Villa, Everton, Toon and some others but where we've massively excelled over the best part of two decades in comparison to those is we've had a sound strategy to being sustainable and competitive. In a simialr time frame, two of those have suffered relegations and another has wasted **** tons of money on poor players.

Yeah you are a good example of that I agree.

Of course you were still starting from a higher point than most. And still haven't won **** all.

'70 and every park and playground, kids calling themselves Pele or Jairzhino when they got the ball. The Pele step over on the half way line, then another to round the keeper but puts it wide. Jairzhino pace down the wing was a sight to behold

That revelation that a brown envelope containing cash was to be handed over at a motorway service station, led to the bung inquiry instigated by the F.A. Only the then Arsenal manager George Graham was found to be guilty of receiving money as part of a transfer deal, although many other rumours abounded.

George Graham was sacked as a result of his financial misdemeanours

And rightly so. If you break the rules you should be punished

Unless you're Man Cheaty of course :bandit:

but Arsenal still cheated yeah, wasn't this the man that won you the double, so you won it by cheating, were the trophies taken back off you and were you relegated to L2, asking for a friend?

To use your own club for example, your wages to turnover at one stage was 116%... In what way is that not spending beyond means?

You'd recorded something like 5 years of straight lossess and those were largely (if not fully) attributed to player expenditure.

Not disputing the numbers - but so what?

Our young owner's family fortune is currently estimated at USD 3.5 billion (and growing) ... he buys untried racehorses (foals and yearlings) at £3 million a pop and King Power currently have a string of 67 with UK based trainers ... our net spend is easily affordable for him ... so we are not spending beyond 'our means' ... which boils down to his means ... indeed, we have a 'sister club' in the Belgian top flight ...

The wage expenditure you mention will represent a trading expense to the club and any losses will actually be an asset (deferred tax asset) on the balance sheet ... they can be used to shelter future trading profits ... so are valuable - and a real financial measurement - not the artificial FFP bollocks ... <cheers>
