Ah, Corbynism is not dead. Fortunately even Rachel Reeves isn't that thick. These sort of tax policies would scare UK companies to the Dow Jones and Nasdaq. Investment is the lifeblood of flourishing companies.
Ah yes, we can't tax the super-rich because they won't like it. Read this... Patriotic Millionaires UK
An anti-capitalist movement. Good luck with that. Reeves spent 6 years in the Bank of England. She knows she must attract business to the UK and keep what we have, that provide vital employment.
I suggest they make some large donations to charity. As a globalist, you will know that the economies in advanced countries in the world are linked. No responsible government is going to risk the welfare of its citizens by embarking on an experiment to abandon practices that have worked, albeit imperfectly, for centuries. As Churchill said, capitalism is the worst economic system except for all the other ones.
Capitalism must have checks and balances, one of which should be fair taxation. The market really doesn’t know best. Anyway, **** off now, I'm watching the football.
You plainly didn't pay any attention to the link I sent. These are not anti-capitalists, they are capitalists who have done very well from the system, but think that the tax system should be restructured so that they and other very wealthy people should pay more back in tax. Wealth of the 200 richest families has grown from £42 billion to £711 billion since the Rich List started in 1989, while public wealth of the country has fallen from £337 billion to - £1 trillion. While the Chancellor aims to cut taxes, 3 in 5 British millionaires think economic growth cannot happen without raising further tax revenue for national investment. A 2 percent tax on the 350 Rich Listers could raise nearly £16 billion - enough to recruit 10,000 new teachers and cover the cost of repairing Britain’s crumbling schools. Having originally declared that all capital gains should be taxed like income, which would encompass massive numbers of people, particularly those that invest in UK businesses, and sticking a wealth tax on savers, you've pared that down to just 350 Rich Listers. Entirely different arguments.
Now Starmer promises to cut immigration just like the Tories, but gives no clue as to when and how. In fact, he’ll do everything just like the Tories as far as I can see. But magically voting for him will be a vote for ‘change’, because that’s a word he uses a lot. What a dire choice.
Both arguments are valid. Why should Rishi Sunak pay a lower marginal tax rate on his £2m income (never mind what his Mrs rakes in) than I do on my much more modest income?
Hollow promises?? From politicians? Can’t be true Sb. Our future is in their hands, surely they wouldn’t tell us porkies.
It's a hugely cynical, but seemingly successful, ploy to avoid saying anything that might upset the former Labour voters who switched to Johnson in 2019. He knows he can rely on the votes of people like me, who just want to see the back of the Tories, even though we're massively frustrated by his excessive caution.
