We certainly need one in (including their OWN assistant and/or coaching staff) before the players come back for pre season.

When is that? Mid-June?

Very beginning of July normally I think. Once teams in the championship start signing players, the pressure to appoint will go through the roof IMO.

Yes, in a world where we have a selection of equally talented Brazilians, mackems and Yorkshireman perhaps your argument comes in to play. Perhaps..... not really in my opinion. What is actually happening though is the club is looking at managers from across the continent. I suspect that wherever the respective candidates grew up is not on the list of priorities. As it shouldn't be.

Sure, I'm not involved in the recruitment process in any formal sense, go back and re-read the first posts about Heckingbottom, I was merely stating that one of the benefits to bringing someone such as Heckingbottom would be the fact he is a Yorkshireman and an ex-Sunderland player, over say, a foreign coach of similar achievement, who will not only have to ingratiate himself into a new culture, but a language and potentially a difficult to understand dialect as well. Again, it's small margins.

Things need to change. If we go into the summer window with this level of ineptitude at getting the deal done, we are going to struggle this season.

Really frustrating. We need to make steps forward this summer. Speakman has a lot to prove at this point.

That said, I'm pretty sick of the sight of Still. Feels like he has dragged us along and dropped us the minute a better offer came along. Bored of his chest-beating, trumpet blowing nonsense on social media. And I'm ****ing sick of seeing videos on the internet declaring him some sort of master tactician.

**** him and **** the cult of hack journalists and football fanboys he's building.

That’s the reality

You could have a year to do a deal and lose it at the last minute.

I previously agreed to join a financial firm many years ago. I dropped them in it the day before to have a change of career and haven't looked back.

Nothings done until it's signed on the line, and it sounds like Still couldn't do that until tomorrow.

Anyone else sick of all the in fighting of our fan base?

everywhere you look it’s just back and forth, people backslapping themselves because they said something x months ago and wanting praise for it.

I agree it’s been a **** show since Mowbray was sacked but the outrage recently is something I’ve never seen before, it’s insane.

the way I see it with Still is that he agreed to manage us, Lens came in at the 11th hour and offered him more. He then asked us to better their offer and we said no. Deal collapsed and he’s claimed it was our doing. IMO

Your last sentence is pretty much how I'm feeling. I've been saying all along that a lot of the Will Still phenomenon is hype. I think, to some extent, the club were right to go after that hype for PR reasons. I can't say I didn't want us to get him, but there are certainly more suitable options out there. If he doesn't want to come here, it's not a massive loss.

The club should maybe not have pursued him for so long but there's no shame in losing out to Lens for him, given the position that they're in. I'm afraid, I think it really is as simple as Lens can offer him a crack at European football and are higher up in their respective league system. I don't believe this stuff about it being down to staffing and investment. Partly because Lens are clearly a more attractive prospect than we are currently. Partly because the people propagating those ideas have stated a pre-existing dislike for Speakman/KLD/the perceived 'model'.

Some things do need to change within the club but, like everything else that has happened so far, missing out on Will Still doesn't warrant calling for KLD to go or for the blueprint for running the club to be torn up as some seem to want.

But he’s signing elsewhere tomorrow because he likes what they offer better and I’m not surprised tbh because we think we’re clever
