Having read the Guardian article I see I misunderstood what is being discussed. It’s not about ‘extending abortion to full term’. This is about prosecution of the very small number of women who take the desperate decision to terminate their pregnancy post 24 weeks. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and, amazingly, The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have already decriminalised abortion in these circumstances, on the grounds that it’s a truly tiny number of cases and that it’s not in the best interested of justice or the resources of the justice system to prosecute them and send them to prison. She has been working with Diana Johnson of Labour who is proposing decriminalising all abortion. See Guardian 8th April
it seem most MPs agree that it should be decriminalised - from the Guardian article
“Polling of MPs for the Times found there appeared to be a majority in favour of decriminalising abortion, with 55% against women being prosecuted, 23% in favour and the rest saying they do not know.”
