I cant help but fear there's some grotty undertone to this we dont know about yet. Of course lifes not simple and anyone can get depression, but did Gary Speed strike you as a man with those problems?

    RIP.

Those with depression are actually brilliant at hiding it, sometimes they are some of the happiest looking people you can come across.

Copy and pasting this from Twitter:

Gary Speed 's death will hopefully make people realise we are ALL vulnerable to being unhappy in life despite how we act on the outside.

One minutes silence turned into a minutes applause at The Liberty. <ok> Much more fitting I think.

Just before I found out this news, I was going to write an article saying I'd get a Xisco shirt. But I think my next one might have to be 'Speed 11'.

True gent, who will be sadly missed. Thought he was going to make a cracking manager. Such a legend, RIP.

Not only is the actual death shocking, but the way someone can seem so happy on the outide and yet have so much wrong on the inside scares me quite a bit.

Depression is a funny thing. You can have everything you could possibly need in life, and still feel unhappy inside. The guy was so intensely private and a cut above today's modern footballers who feel the need to live their lives in the tabloids, we'll probably never know why he has decided to do this. For him to feel that suicide was the only way out is so, so, sad. To feel so lonely that you can't talk to your friends and family about your troubles must be the worst feeling in the world.

RIP Speedo, you were a true Toon legend and the whole football world is devastated by this loss <rose>

Was nailed on to manage us at some point in his career.

Such a great guy on and off the pitch and the definition of a role model.

    RIP <rose>

Apparently Bellamy has omitted himself from the squad today. Must have hit him really hard.

After Stan Collymores tweets yesterday about depression and rumors that Speed suffered from severe depression there needs to be more done in Football to raise awareness that it is a real problem. Having suffered depression myself I know its a horrible thing to suffer from.

This. Can't imagine what suffering from depression can feel like. Must be awful, and lonely. Especially, when it gets to the point where death is the only way out.

Cant believe they are playing at Swansea to be honest. I suppose they reckon he would want a match to go ahead. Shocker.

Hows Given going to be feeling?
