I can't quite believe the Flat is upon us again, so here we go with the 2024 First Season Sire thread.
I've picked out the most likely contenders for FSS honours, as well as those recognisable names that people might be looking out for.
After each stallion's name I have included the stud they stood at and number of mares they covered in their debut season, which will give a rough idea of their ammunition for 2024. If I find an update on how many foals they actually have to go into battle I will update the list.
I will focus on stallions that stood in GB/IRE in 2021:
ARIZONA (Coolmore) 101 mares covered
CIRCUS MAXIMUS (Coolmore) 102 mares covered
EARTHLIGHT (Darley Ireland) 162 mares covered
FAR ABOVE (Compass Stallions, Ireland) 142 mares covered
GALILEO CHROME (Compass Stallions, Ireland) 92 mares covered
GHAIYYATH (Darley Ireland) 138 mares covered
KAMEKO (Tweenhills) 114 mares covered
KEW GARDENS (Coolmore) 188 mares covered
KING OF CHANGE (Derrinstown) 70 mares covered
LEGENDS OF WAR (March Hare Stud) 32 mares covered
MOHAATHER (Shadwell) 146 mares covered
OLD PERSIAN (Rathbarry Stud) 158 mares covered
PINATUBO (Darley GB) 152 mares covered
RIVER BOYNE (Tara Stud) 56 mares covered
RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE (Norman Court Stud) 40 mares covered
SANDS OF MALI (Ballyhane Stud) 152 mares covered
SERGEI PROKOFIEV (Whitsbury Manor) 154 mares covered
SHAMAN (Yeomanstown) 134 mares covered
SOTTSASS (Coolmore) 188 mares covered
VERBAL DEXTERITY (Glebe House) 10 mares covered
WAY TO PARIS (Coolagown Stud) 109 mares covered
WITHOUT PAROLE (Newsells Park) 83 mares covered
Notes
CIRCUS MAXIMUS has been left in New Zealand for the 2024 season which doesn't bode well for what people think of his prospects! His books fell to 68 and 31 in 2022 and 2023 so obviously something was up.
KEW GARDENS probably more NH orientated, but might get some Flat runners
KING OF CHANGE moved to Compass Stallions in 2023
WAY TO PARIS mostly NH orientated but did have some offspring change hands at the Flat yearlings sales
