I was thinking the same. 12 years old and well held in the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham I think with hindsight they could have called it a day before today. He was always in rear today and I don't think he was going anywhere between the 4th last and 3rd last but Mark Walsh was still really going for him when he broke down. I know there is the non-triers rule but somehow I think Walsh could have pulled him up as he was never getting involved in the finish from there and it might have saved his life. I guess we'll never know but it was a sad end to a glorious career.
