How do ex players get jobs on radio/tv? Troy Deeney reckons Liverpool need to sign Gary O’Neill to replace klopp. Now let’s ignore the fact that Richard hughes our new sporting director sacked O’Neil at start of season at Bournemouth so seems unlikely he’ll now hire him at lfc. But his logic is that Liverpool being left in good place but with a young team and need a coach to mould those young players and (I don’t quite get this) if we hired de Zerbi we’d expect to be challenging for top 4, but Gary O’Neill would have less expectation on him. Don’t get me wrong, think he’s done decent at wolves but whoever Liverpool hire the absolute minimum would be that they get top 4. Not sure why we’d go ok Gary, fee free to finish 10th this year
I really dispair. having watched current player mikel antonio absolutely make a fool of himself a number of times (even though he comes across as an affable enough moron) really tels me at this point we have saturation coverage and the well of intelllgent people is dry. theres not enough to go round so you get an absolute fool like this. The moron might as well have said what he is really thinking and that seems to be LFC will be 10th without klopp.
Feel like you’re giving too much credit as that implies that some of these comments are deliberate and they’re intelligent enough to know what they’re saying will cause traffic for being controversial?
It riles me the absolute waste of money on talking heads and useless pundits - on TV and online papers. If they said what we were all thinking then there'd be nothing to talk about so they have to invent something different. But really, who gives a flying **** about what Troy Deeney thinks?
Footballers in general aren't known for being intelligent so we shouldn't be expecting much from them when they speak out about anything.
Again, I'm not sure that's entirely fair - I don’t think there's any real evidence for footballers as a whole being more or less intelligent than the population as a whole. E.g. Klopp and Guardiola are both ex-footballers who seem like thoughtful people. It's the negative examples that get amplified though.
I think you've taken my comment too seriously. Obviously you can't say 'all footballers are this or that'. Some are very intelligent and articulate. Generally speaking, which is what I said, footballers tend to give a poor impression in interviews. Add to that Deeney's (seeing as it was originally about him) comments during the pandemic when he made a simple statement which contained factually incorrect assertions and it perpetuates the stereotype.

Liverpool to shake hands with the enemy. Rumours going around that FSG has approached Jose Mourinho to be the next manager of Liverpool. Disaster about to happen!.
If Amorim had agreed to be the next Liverpool manager why is he flying London to speak to West Ham, which says he isn’t going to be. Where does that leave us? The decent choices are few and far between.
Thats only a rumour because he was at the Fulham game on Sunday. Reality is that Mourinho is friends with Silva
Who’s actually out there? Mourinho isn’t the coach he was when he first took over Chelsea. That version of Mourinho I would be prepared to accept even with his personality defects, because he was a winner. The current version is just a sad pale imitation. This really should have already been sorted well before now, it’s becoming a bit ridiculous.
Its all a bit murky really. I am sure we have sounded him out wether we have persued it further no ones knows. But he was saying last week no talks has happened and wants to concentrate on winning league. Then he is pictured in London talking to West Ham which is a little disrespectful to Moyes unless they have already told him he is toast at the end of the season.
