Final paragraph I agree with, the rest is too black and white. We played well in those games and held our own, simple as. If we can do that in the Champions League and finish 7th/6th this season, then we're easily capable of competing in the Europa League/Conference next season.

Conference is just a renamed Intertoto but I’m sure we’d all be happy to win it for now as a stepping stone.
We'd all be absolutely loving it and it's definitely the most realistic and easiest one to get. I hope we land in it next season. We'd automatically have a very very good chance which isn't the same if we land europa..europa has many clubs above and on our level.. it would still be very unlikely and much more difficult to win.

We finished bottom but we gave a good account of ourselves, especially against PSG. If we can give a good account in the CL, we can clearly do better in Europa, with obviously a much better chance of progressing/winning.
That's the fact followed by mental gymnastics yes. Nobody has said we can't compete in the europa, but there's some snobbery towards winning the other major trophy which is Newcastles best chance.

I've never said we're anywhere near winning the Champions League, City **** on us from every angle, but even they're gone out now, likewise Arsenal.
I never thought beating PSG meant we would significantly progress....for me that's more snobbery on PSG's front, they didn't give a **** against us and thought they could waltz past a "smaller" side, and in the end in was just that stupid penalty that meant we didn't progress, and PSG weren't totally out of Europe.
