The Mayor banned it from going ahead. They did it anyways. If they don't respect the local authority's decision, why not send the police in? The speakers attending are vile, no wonder the Mayor there wanted nothing to do with them.
Appearing at the gathering will be controversial figures from the populist right from across the globe. They include Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian prime minister and a key ally of Russian president Vladamir Putin. In 2020, Tory MP Daniel Kawczynski was reprimanded during Boris Johnson’s Conservative leadership for attending the NatCon event in Rome, where Orbán was also a speaker. Others expected to take the stage this year include Hans-Georg Maaßen , the former German spy chief who last year revealed he was under investigation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution for suspected rightwing extremism. Maaßen was forced from office in 2018 after he appeared to question the authenticity of a video showing far-right violence at a festival. He has since written an article comparing migrants with cancer. Also on the speakers’ list are Rod Dreher, an American writer who argued that the Christchurch mosque gunman who killed 51 people in 2019 did have “legitimate, realistic concerns” about “declining numbers of ethnic Europeans”; Ryszard Legutko, a Polish politician who has said he does not “understand why anyone should want to be proud of being a homosexual”; and Uzay Bulut, a Turkish political analyst who said that London “appears to be a striking case of the Islamisation of a major western capital through mass migration”. (Also Zemmour, a nasty far right piece of **** was due to speak too, that's not the full list)
Because there are international laws that allow and protect freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Bureaucrats cannot just stifle political views that are not to their taste - otherwise Belgium is no better than Iran. And note that an Iranian government minister came to Belgium recently with no restrictions.
If there's an individual who is a hate preacher, speaker, then individual injunctions can be obtained through the civil courts against him/ her. To stop him/her expressing themselves. You don't cancel a whole conference unless you're an unexcused authoritarian or theocrat.
You can't express yourself legally by undertaking criminal damage or by damaging others unreasonably. Surely that's a given.
They 'took back control'. Thought that was encouraged? Braverman herself tried to ban protesting. What's the difference? I have no issues with a bunch of crazy right wingers being barred from preaching their hate.
That's fine mate, but don't pretend to believe in human rights because you don't. You can't just believe in the human rights of left wingers. I don't know how old you are, but it's school kids stuff. Braverman was concerned at the antisemitic chants and intimidation on those marches.

Isn't that also freedom of speech? I respect the rights of authorities to set rules in their respective cities. What is so wrong with that? Farage can complain to the ECHR if he's not happy.
What? Do you realise hate crimes exist? Do you think anyone can say whatever they want to whoever they want? Free speech has limits.
Let's put it into a scenario that you lot will understand. You know those marches with people shouting 'Death to Jews'. Or the people on Speakers corner shouting things you don't like. You want them deported, do you not agree?
You clearly don't understand the meaning of free speech and it's distinction from illegal hate speech. This far left mayor banned the meeting because someone "may" say something that amounted to illegal hate speech. This is an example of "thought police" and "cancel culture".
Not condescending at all that eh? You lot? What does that mean? Someone shouting "death to all Jews" or indeed "death to all Palestinians" etc etc is illegal. I would want them prosecuted. I don't quite understand why you bring deportation into this. You obviously only want to hear from people who share your world view and everyone who doesn't must be silenced.
No, you don't understand that once you set limits to free speech, it's no longer 'free'. Once you accept that, you can't complain that a local authority has the right to stop people spreading their vile message to fellow racists. Get it?
What are you on about? They were told not to do it, did it anyways and the police got involved. Their ****ty little event continued, they just stopped the racists from watching them. The fact a British MP was there, obviously funded by some nasty people (she had ridiculous amounts of security there), is of more concern to me. She was sharing a stage with racists, homophobes and fruitloops.
