The problem with VAR is that it's still subjective. Even something like an offside, which should be clear cut is still subject to interpretation And as we have experienced, even when a ball goes out of play, it's still a subjective experience As a result, VAR makes almost as many mistakes as there was without it. For me, the only thing the tech should be used for is goal line technology (which should be extended to all dead ball lines on the pitch) And just bin the rest of it off As for the refs, they all make mistakes, some more than others. But I honestly just think it's a part of the game.
The technology for offside is changing at some point next season, a new system was voted in yesterday. If you see Sucky just tell him Man City said yes to it and all the others nodded politely.
The offside for Salah's goal last night was done really quickly by VAR, it would have taken about 10 minutes in the PL.
I like Tierney as I also like Anthony Taylor, but maybe that is because I'm not a Prem fan in the true sense ie I don't support a Prem club. When you see the officiating at lower league level, which I'm sure you probably have you would know what I mean. Do Tierney and Taylor get things wrong... I'm sure they do but overall they offer a good standard of referring, especially when you consider a lot of players try and cheat, a lot of players roll around like they've been shot, fans are always on the case of a ref if things go against them, then you get the verbals from the touchline. I thought one disgraceful example was what happened to Taylor over the Roma result, Jose's day of shame. Then it followed him and his family to the airport. The refs these days have VAR, but quite often we see it undermining the authority on the pitch, some for the better, some for the worse. But when fans complain refs are bent or are against us, then stop the diving in the box, looking for every little tap to go down, or running like an Ostrich aka Saka. You find one at every club, sometimes it's even easier to score, but a Prem players mind is if you get touched, tap out, afterall some players have made their name on it and won golden boots, aka Kane the penalty taker. Then you get real players, those that can play in most positions because they were trained by the master, I give you Foden, he goes down and bounces back up like Zebedee because his eye is on goal, not conning the ref. You're welcome.
From the angles shown at the time the whole of the ball probably didn't go over the whole of the line but yeah it was totally a foul on Gabriel so oops. Probably my favourite goal of the season if I'm being honest, just for the comedy value. We've had a plethora of bad decisions this season with the last minute penalty against PSG in the CL being the stand out - which then ultimately meant we dropped out of the competition. It is what it is. I would add too though that the time and circumstances of the decisions are often breezed past. Sheffield Utd were let off with a clear red card against us and probably the clearest penalty shout we've had this season but we won 8-0 so it made no difference. I reckon unless it's in the last 15 minutes of a really tight match then supporters just need to suck it up; if we get a dodgy penalty against us in the first 5 minutes at the weekend and then lose 1-0 it's on us not the ref.
I would have been the same if the goal was the other way around. Lapping it up for the comedy value and laughing at people up who were crying about Arsenal cheating etc. As I've mentioned from the off with VAR, the only thing it's good for is the bantz when it ****s over opposition fans
I have to apologise for moving this thread the other day, but my excuse is I was very high on the after effects of GA and morphine when I did it. The good news is I like Luv and his appearance had a calming affect on me, otherwise things could of got very interesting to the amusement of regular Prem members.
