I encountered a pro-Palestine rally in New York yesterday - only a few hundred people, and about half that number of police. As I approached the crowd though I could plainly see that there were a couple of Hassidic Jews with all the gear on on one of the stands. Trouble, I thought, but no, they were holding placards denouncing Netanyahu and the Israeli state.

Always one or two of those cosplaying weirdos. They believe in Israel being the jewish homeland but only when the messiah comes back to earth so safe to say they aren’t all there.

Dozens of Iranian-launched drones on route to Israel and due to arrive within hours. It starts...

Iran's UN mission said the attack was in response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria and that, "the matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran's response will be considerably more severe."

It's what Israel wanted but sadly for them, Biden has told them that the US won't support any retaliation against Iran. Good.

About 300 of them, most of which were intercepted and shot down. Fired from all over the middle east - Syria,Yemen, Iraq and Iran - shot down with a bit of help from the US, UK and France. If Israel do decide to retaliate, thia will be a major escalation and will get pretty hairy very quickly

Why good?

Iran signalled to the US before this attack that they considered this to be a proportionate response to the Israeli bombing of the Iranian embassy in Damascus and that they consider this 'matter' now closed. Striking foreign embassies is crossing a line to which any nation state would have to respond

Iran playing mostly to its own population to stand against its sworn enemies. The Iranian regime had to respond in order to have any credibility but they fear further escalation

Biden has told Netanyahu to not respond. Biden cannot afford to get dragged into this further, his electoral standings already look very bad and there are no winners in a regional war

So yes, whilst a missile attack on any country is horrific, the threat was neutralised with minimal impact

The Israelis have called for a UN Security Council meeting this afternoon at which no doubt any proposal to endorse retaliation will be vetoed by China and Russia, possibly with others and some abstentions - most likely the US

'US President Biden has said he will convene a meeting of G7 leaders to “coordinate a united diplomatic response” to Iran’s attack.'

A 'diplomatic response'. The launguage is very de-escalatory. It all looks very choreographed to me.

Netanyahu looks strong to his electorate
As does Iran
Nasrallah says its an Iranian/Israeli issue
The US avoids any further escalation involvement

For Netanyahu its worked well. Now the US Senate will definitely sign off the stalled aid package and its shifted the focus away from Gaza albeit temporarily
