Kids like it, nice and relaxed, plus I can rent a bike for a few days and t some cycling in early mornings. Nice little beach and restaurants away from hotel too.

I'm climbing Half Dome in Yosemite in September. You have to apply for a permit to climb it and it's a ****ing god awful convoluted process. They release the permits through a lottery system, which you can apply for each week. And it costs $10 each time. You can also apply for a wilderness permit (which includes a half dome permit) also each week and also costs you $10. I've been rejected for both for my first application, so **** knows how much I'm going to spend on getting this permit.

After the lottery is finished, you can apply for any permits that were awarded, but not taken up. After that you can apply for a day hike permit, up to two days before you climb and if there are none of those available, you can chance it and get a 'walk up' permit from the ranger station on the day.... if any are left.

Like I say, unnecessarily convoluted.

Will be worth it though :)

Probably because too many humans want to do it, and you are just adding to the numbers.

Lol I knew you'd have something negative to say about it.

But yeah, it's to keep the numbers manageable. I think otherwise it gets too dangerous with loads of people all trying to climb it at the same time.

why? whats up there?
A vat of vodka, all you can eat and a free brothel.....cos that the only thing that would get my tubby arse up there.

Yeah I think those things are at the top mate.

I want my $10 back if not

That's just me rattling around in your head bro lol. It's true though, you see it with places like Everest, a human conveyar belt, That's why it's a lottery. they are trying to limit the numbers, otherwise it just becomes a human traffic jam.

I wasn't thinking about you as it goes lol. But yeah they have to limit the numbers at places like this to keep it safe. I understand that, it's just the convoluted system they've devised which is a pain in the arse. Also applying each week at $10 for each permit and getting turned down will get expensive very quickly.

Talking about Everest, did you see the footage of the climbers casually walking past the body of a dead Sherpa up there ? I suppose there's not a lot they could do about it. But it just seemed a bit sad, seeing him there and they were almost oblivious to him.

Yeah I saw about some person they left there, can't remember much of the full story, but remember it seeming a bit crass.

If it's that popular, I wouldn't let it spoil your trip, time soon flies on those journeys, so one negative will just be a positive in more time for something else. Mistake I made when I went out there, tried to do too much and not enough time to take it all in.

It's my big 50th challenge to climb it. But yeah if I can't get permits, I'll probs do Clouds rest or Mt Dana. I'm there for a month and we're driving up to Montana and Wyoming to go to Yellowstone too, so there will be plenty to see.

This will be my 5th time in the states and I'm always trying to pack too much in. Got a 32ft RV this time so we won't be going anywhere in a hurry lol
