I can see why it was disallowed. Certainly not the "worst decision of all time" as O'Neil put it. The fact is he was right in front of the keeper so he would have been blocking his vision to some extent.

I agree. First I read the O'Neil comment and then a clip from MOTD and they all criticised the decision, I thought it must have been a howler. When I saw it I thought, like you, that you could see why it was disallowed. Whether the keeper could have saved it is besides the point IMO, the offside player is within touching distance he's that close. Also I think the offside player (don't know his name) was deliberately trying to block the keeper anyway.

There’s no way of knowing but also the fact West Ham had no one on the posts, it is possible they were playing with this rule in mind.
They may even have made the refs aware ahead of the game they’d be doing this (I believe refs still meet teams pre match? Tom/others may be able to confirm/denounce this)
