I’m Rosenior in, regardless of how this season ends. Our position is much better than most expected at the start of the season, and I think we’ve had some unfortunate injuries and signed a few players that have failed to live up to their potential, which is a little frustrating due to our position at Christmas – but overall we’re going in the right direction – and I think the sentiment is the same within the club. Overall, I think we should be looking at this season as a sign of encouragement of what we can achieve with more recruitment. This time last year we wouldn’t have looked anywhere near as positive a choice for players. This summer, we can sell ourselves as club on the up, aiming to achieve promotion next season – we wouldn’t have been able to confidently say that last summer. And I do think we need to recruit. We’ve had some talent this year, but we have an issue of real depth, especially impact players, as most of our substitutes feel like a downgrade on the player being replaced. I mean, could you imagine getting promoted this season, with this squad and its depth? You’d be panicking about how many players you’d need to sign to get PL ready.
But it isn't the start of the season. People's expectations changed when we signed the players we did in January and I imagine Acun's did too.
Im not sure. I think it was more of a ‘let’s see what happens’ as they were ahead of the clubs plan. Loan signings aren’t exactly the best way to build a foundation for the prem.
They're not but they've spent a fortune and built no foundation for 2024/25 which tells me it was a balls deep effort to get up.
I miss the odd home match with living away, still reckon I've done 18 home and away matches this year.....seen us win 5 times. 5 ****ing times. That's miserable.
It's always going to be speculation but from what I'm told from someone who should have a good idea we had to pay out a hell of a lot for Fabio.
We spent a hell of a lot in Jan TBF, wages for the players coming in are high! Plus as you say the loan fee to Liverpool was pretty steep
Loans aren’t free with loan fees plus portion of wages. Also, Carvalho is on a decent wedge as his base salary at Liverpool so picking up a portion of that is expensive. Even half of Carvalho’s wages at Liverpool is probably more than our highest-paid permanent player. We also spent a few million on Ömür and Pandur. Our January transfer window was not cheap.
Yeah, I don't believe Acun didn't see where we were placed and think 'this is the best chance we are likely to get to get up'. He went all in on red or black for me.
No foundation? Omur, Pandur, Giles (some seem to disagree but he's likely to be here) all signings for next season.
It's not the end of the season yet. A poor finish could easily see us finish not much higher than last season. If so I can't see any case for keeping him, surely
He’s a manager in an upward trajectory that is going to grow and learn as he gets more experience as a manager. A club with our budget would struggle to replace him with someone that isn’t a journeyman or a has been.
Think its important that we don't just let the season peter out like a miserable damp squib. We aren't going up but surely we should be aiming to end the season as strongly as possible to gain some momentum going into the close season?
