He's still our top scorer despite missing a few games, and he's matured into more of a team player as he's slowed down. He's been involved in almost a third of all our goals this season - 21 goals and 12 assists in 32 games. Jota is more efficient but injury-prone, Nunez is inconsistent, Diaz and Gakpo are even more inconsistent. I'm a football fan not an accountant so I'm indifferent to the value arguments. We're not hard up so sell him after we have an adequate replacement secured, not in order to try and find one. I'd be happy if we played him until he's 36 and worth a tenner if he can keep getting 20 a season.
None of which are any good if we lose his goal involvements without replacement. Who wants to be rich and fifth?
" Xabi Alonso has 'decided to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool', claims Richard Keys... but beIN Sports presenter warns that the deal could still fall through" - the Fail In other words... "I'm going to make this claim that I think will happen and have no evidence for, but I'll say "it could fall through" so that I have an out if my unsubstantiated guess is wrong.
We all want Alonso to be our next manager (me too) but despite every club wanting him, just a reminder he is still pretty unproven and no guarantee he'll be able to repeat the magic of Leverkusen anywhere else. Still want him to join us, but he's not a guaranteed success. (Also no guarantee he won't bugger off and join Madrid after 12 months either)
As a former player he has the edge over other competing for the job. He is not going to be cheque book manager as he has proven with his current club.
we've got really lucky with klopp staying for longer than expected. managers will come and go but we will give alonso every chance.
I know you're having a laugh but... ...no, definitely not. England have some very talented players atm and should be doing better than they are. Their failure to live up to expectations has to be down to the manager. His negativity, but also imo, his lack of personality. Motivating players is such an important aspect of management. Imagine if they had Klopp in charge. Imagine the bathos at Liverpool to go from the emotional high of Klopp to someone with all the charisma of a wet lettuce.
TBF, none of us wanted Woy but a think a few were willing to give him a chance once appointed. It just didn't last long, especially after announcing how good a friendship he had with whiskey nose. Someone at work mentioned Klopp turning to international football but I think he'd struggle. He needs time with the players to work in his method, you don't get that with international football. Can counter that with his man management though I suppose, can't think of many better than him at that.
