We must have been there at the same time. I left there in 1987 to go to Shellmex for more money. I was in the famous furniture gang with our white coats and mad Irish foreman. Also did lots of weekends, but you're not going to tell me you worked hard there! Were you there when the laggers caught Bernie going through their pockets?
No never worked that hard at weekends, I was brought in as pair of extra hands by the above mentioned- they’d normally sort most of the overtime work during the working week - can’t remember the Bernie thing - remember the free drink dispensers and lots of young girls there
The free drinks machines were brought in to replace the tea ladies because staff spent too much time chatting to them, but it backfired because the office staff used to meet up at the coffee machines for a natter. The laggers used to seal in the asbestos at the weekends and someone was going through their pockets, so one of them who was smaller than Elfs hid up in the ceiling one weekend. He caught one of the sparks red-handed, and he received a good hiding and was not seen again.
I was able to get child fares on the buses until I was 21 before they decided to bring ID in. True story.
When you unwrap a normal looking chocolate bar to find it has all been broken up My morning tea break KitKat disintegrated into a hundred crumbs as soon as I opened it.
Chocolate is about to get more expensive, due to climate change, or global heating as I prefer tp call it.
It’s funny how all the measures to counter the warming of the planet, involve ordinary people paying more money to rich people.
Where there's muck there's brass. The carbon offset scheme, aka a box-ticking exercise for the mega rich, delivers practically nothing to its intended destination, and huge fortunes to the organisers and consultants who manage it. Which will surprise no-one.
And as we’ve mentioned before, the felling of tens of thousands of mature trees to power the ‘green’ power station at Dax, vastly increases carbon emissions but has been deemed ok……. by the rich people who run the plant and become even richer and the rich people who administer the scheme and also become even richer. It’s all a big con. In fact it’s the biggest con on the planet and millions of people are falling for it and millions more know it, but can’t do anything about it.
Which are due to get smaller and more expensive because of the warming of the planet ! Which surprise, surprise, will lead to more profit for rich people and less money for poor people. You couldn’t make this sh*t up
I don’t buy enough chocolate for it to worry me - however I do worry about the cost of lager - I remember vowing never to drink it again once it went over a pound a pint ! Here I am at £5.40 a pint and still going strong !
