    Match Preview;
    Back in October, when we welcomed Sunderland to Loftus Road, we had won two and lost three in our opening five matches, and I remember having a sinking feel when Jack Clarke, who was very young when he played for us, but he didn't look great, got them level in the 8th minute of added time in the first half. Heads down going in at half time, two more conceded in the second half, and a run of nine games started during which we lost seven and drew two...and eventually led to Ainsworth's dismissal.

    For Sunderland, it hasn't been an amazing season so far, and they currently sit 12th, on 47 points. Important to note, they haven't picked up a single point since beating Plymouth on March 10th, so six straight losses. Their top scorer is former Rangers loan player, Jack Clarke, with 15 goals. Since we played them last, and I want to phrase this carefully, their manager Tony Mowbray was dismissed in December, and they replaced him temporarily with Michael Dodds, and then a permanent manager was appointed. I can't fathom to remember the guy's name, and it doesn't really matter, as he only lasted until February after 4 wins in 12 games, and there is a very odd story in there involving a twitter account. Sounds like a funny chap. We move on.

    As for us, after three wins in a row, then a draw, followed most recently by a loss, it'd be lovely and reassuring to get back to winning ways...not least because we are still only on 39 points, so just 1 point outside the drop zone. Dykes and Chair are our top scorers, with 5 each, followed by Armstrong, Willock and Paal who have 4 apiece. Good news this week as Field has signed a new contract, and if he can click with Willock/Dykes/Armstrong going forward, I'm hopeful that we'll soon pick up the points we need to move away from danger.

    Marti Cifuentes;

    "Our aim is to play better football, and keep playing football."

    "I think the guys are focused on the performance...we are not spending time focusing on others, but focusing on how we can be better."

    "We need to understand we have a difficult game ahead of us, and we need to show the best of ourselves."

    Didn't hear or see any team news, enjoy if you are one of the thousand fans making the trip, and as always...

    ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!

    Didn't phrase it very clearly, edited now to read;

    I remember fondly the home game in our promotion season under Jago (72-73) when I stood in The Paddock on my own for the first time ever. Dennis Tueart who was a Sunderland player then, opened the scoring with a fabulous strike from about 25 yards. Don Givens equalised before the break and then Gerry Francis created two identical tap ins for Stan within a couple of minutes of each other when he dribbled up the wing toward the School End (The Paddock side of the pitch and on along the goal line to the six yard box before passing to Stan who had shaken off his marker and only had to tap the ball about two feet to sore. Sunderland came back at the end and scored a second and that's how it finished.

    Season ending was after the Cup Final which Sunderland won of course and we gatecrashed the celebrations by :

    Tony Hazell miscuing and knocking the Cup of its plinth.
    Getting Horswill sent off
    before we ran out 3-0 winners.

    We had already sealed promotion as runners up to Burnley - the two teams walking the division that year. Happy happy days. A time when you considered yourself blessed to support a team like ours and all neutrals secretly supported us as their second favourite side.

    And an honourable mention for Younes Kaboul who didn’t play for us but is the ultimate Mandela Effect player.

    A good 9 or 10 of us from here heading over to Sunderland this week. The flights are only 40 euros return to Newcastle. Looking forward to a good day out. If it's half as good as Leicester was a couple of weeks ago, it will be a great day.

    I went in 2015 when we beat them 0-2 in the PL. I'll be happy if we repeat that.

    Another one who has played for both. I think Nedum Onouha played on loan at Sunderland for a season while he was with Man City.
