He’s been **** for ages The squad is full of players who on their day look top drawer but ultimately are quite inconsistent
As defeats go, that was almost a Conte-esque one. Awful all around. No one ended up leaving the pitch having played well and the manager didn’t help matters either.
The day our luck ran out I guess. Probably first time Ange has some justified criticism coming his way. Needs to get this leaking goals sorted.
Fair play to Wolves though. O’Neil tactically outdone Ange with relative ease, hit us on dangerous counters and scored a good second goal. O’Neil in general proving himself a very decent manager. Harshly sacked by Bournemouth and doing pretty well with Wolves.
If you’re going to break down a defence like that you either need to pass the ball really quickly and well with good movement, or have players who can work in tight spaces and beat the first man, in order to move all the defenders around out of their block. We had neither going for us today.
Exactly right, we were just too deliberate in our movements. The only way to get through such a block is by fast ball movement.
I don’t think he will change, his ways have worked in his career so far so I see why he’s got confidence in it but the PL is a different beast from anywhere he’s managed before. My fear is that if he doesn’t change then Spurs will continue to be predictable to play against and ultimately entertain but not achieve anything.
Think we need to remember that we are building a team...in Pochettino's first season we were inconsistent while he sorted out his squad. Unlike Pochettino, this in Ange's first season in the Premier league and the same is true of several of our players. To have scored in ever league game after selling Kane is a very good sign. The squad clearly needs strengthening and tbh my only criticism is the signing of Werner ... he was never going be an answer IMHO. All in all (when you consider the number of injuries, suspensions and players away on international duty throughout November, December and January and the loss of Kane) we are doing much better than any of us hoped for and I an hoping that continue as he gets more of his players into the squad.
With the FBs out, you have no pace down the flanks. Kulu has not been on form so Johnson IMHO should have been on the right in the starting XI. Once Wolves showed they were sitting off the pivot trap + playing pure counter-attack, Bissouma should have played as true DM and let Sarr be the advance CM to bring the ball to Maddison.
Porro and Udogie being out disrupted our defence, midfield and attack. We must find two players to replicate them in the next window. They are key to playing Angeball
Just what I was thinking. Nothing in that game that could be remotely regarded as positive. Son was largely invisible, Bissouma sleepwalking through parts of the game and the rest looking like they were on the piss last night. I know we are a couple of years behind the Goons in development terms, but I just hope that there wasn't a reason why no other 'top' PL team had looked at Ange and thought 'Thats the guy for us'....
Cba with another project. Plus Ange isn’t sticking around for 5-6 years like Poch. Also I don’t see it as this year is the foundation and then things will get better. Next season will likely see the return of European football and it’s almost impossible to do worse in the domestic cups than they did this season and I think this squad with his style will really struggle with the extra games.
I’m still largely very (very!) happy with Ange but I think it’s just clear he definitely has some weaknesses. Like I said to King though, I very much believe some of the weaknesses can be slowed or prevented by giving him better players, especially in the squad, the quality gap between first XI and squad is so worrying. We’ve got a lot of top four quality starters but a fairly large bunch of relegation/ championship calibre squad players.
