If I were Smyth, I would be completely at a loss as to why I can't get a place over Willock.

Smyth puts 110% in.

Willock puts about 34.564% in.

Smyth makes things happen as soon as he sets foot on the pitch.

Willock sometimes does something decent, if the ball falls at his feet and he can be bothered.

I agree but then we’re relatively old school. The kids would say Willock has more goal contributions, xG creation and all that. Smyth tends to play better as a sub.

Defensively though Willock is woeful.

New boys starting...
Picks itself really aside from Willock/Smyth issue. If he's insisting on starting with Willock on recent performances he needs to be hooked much earlier.

Interesting to read in Clive's preview there may have been other deals lined up if we could have offloaded Willock, Kakay and Richards. I've no issue with Kakay he's been a good servant to the club but the other two no.

Well...

Firstly, Willock is supposed to be more of an attacking midfielder or dribbler and shooter. Smyth is a classic winger and is expected to cross more than shoot.

Secondly, Willock has had more time on the pitch. Smyth, if lucky, gets 10 mins at the end of a match.

Smyth has turned games. Willock has rarely done that.

Well he has, but admittedly not since his injury.
It's clear that he's Marti's kind of player.
